Hirsch Ballito and Sappi together with AMG put together a Wellness day held at Sappi for International Diabetic Day. Tiara from AMG demonstrated the AMG steaming pots and pans by cooking delicious steamed chicken and vegetables. Hirsch made delightful healthy smoothies that everyone enjoyed tremendously.  A very successful morning was held with a strong reminder and importance of health and wellness.

Hirsch Ballito, ELBA and the International Hotel School had a fantastic express demo over the weekend, with Ramola Makan  from ELBA and Sphesihle Dlamini a trainee  Chef from the International Hotel School cooking scrumptious  Festive pecan and raisin stuffing and delicious Ginger Bread. Guests were fascinated to see how easy it was to cook and bake on the ELBA gas stove and Ramola gave interesting, diverse and easy cooking and health tips to the crowd – who contributed with their own informative and helpful cooking tips – so all in all, a great interactive cooking session!

The inimitable aroma of Christmas mince pies wafted through Hirsch Ballito last Friday, when Hirsch’s Chef-on-the-go, Warren Pearce, gave customers an interesting and informative demonstration on how to make and bake the pies in SMEG’s gas oven. “Christmas has finally arrived.  These are delicious, and so easy to prepare.”  Said Ballito resident Jill Broane. To round it off  the event, Hirsch’s  gave a prize to the guest who helped Warren the most in the “kitchen” - so well done Debbie Tulloch for being a such a great sport!

MIELE AT HIRSCH BALLITO MIELE was in full force at Hirsch Ballito today doing what they do best. Barend van den Bergh from MIELE gave an interesting training session on their top range washing machines that included the Twin Dos and Power Wash machines.   Sales Manager, Cheryl Woollatt handed over a R cheque to the Top Sales person for the coastal region,  Nirupa Manor from Hirsch Ballito. What a blast of a Saturday Hirsch Ballito had! Not only did we start off the day with an awesome BIG BIG SALE but we ended it off with an even a bigger Christmas Party!! The Christmas spirit ran high when we all went on an amazing Boat Cruise. The weather was fantastic with no wind or rain in sight. This afforded us the opportunity to enjoy the cruise to its fullest potential with spectacular views of the water front and ships passing by. Awards were given to top performers and fun awards were handed out to a variety of people – that had everyone rolling with laughter! Music, an amazing spread of delicious snacks combined with a high sailor team spirit created an unforgettable Christmas Party. After the boat cruise the team had a Catered Braai at the Blue Lagoon area with a variety of meat, salads and the evening was rounded off with lots of food, laughter and fun. A very well deserved year end function - continuing to keep the spirit high!!

Hirsch Ballito recently held their monthly Networking Morning with Simon Grainger, Brand Strategy Navigator at Vega, who helped local marketers answer the question ‘Is your brand distinctive enough?’. Grainger highlighted 5 key questions that businesses should be asking themselves: Who is your target market? Do you know your competitors? Do you have a clear brand identity? What is your brand positioning? Are you an authentic communicator? Grainger explained that in order to have a distinctive brand, businesses need to ‘think beyond their direct competitor and look beyond traditional demographics’. The owner of Fine Young Cooks, Lewaine Von Allemann was announced the October winner of the Margaret Hirsch Business Woman of the Month award at a business women’s networking meeting that took place on Friday at Hirsch Ballito.   Lewaine, who has always had a passion for cooking, runs her cookery school for children around the North Coast and has also started up classes for adults.  She has become very much part of the Fine Living Bru cooking competition that is held during the Mr. Price PRO International surfing week that is held every year in Ballito.   Margaret gave an inspiring talk about how important it is to stay true to oneself in business, and to never give up on one’s dreams.  “Everyone should have a vision board.  It works. Believe it and it will happen!” she told the gathering of local business women.    Margaret started the Margaret Hirsch Business Woman of the Month (leading up to the Business Woman of the Year)  competition in all of the areas in which Hirsch’s operates (11 throughout South Africa) because she could see how she – and Hirsch’s – had  benefited from the business accolades she has received over the years. “Winning business orientated awards has been wonderful – both for Hirsch’s and for me personally, and I would like to see this happening to other women in business. As women, we tend not to be assertive enough.  There are so many fantastic women out there who are not coming forward to be acknowledged for their contribution to the business world, and I would like to encourage them to come forward and enter the competition.”  She explained.  The next winner of the competition will be announced at a function organised by the Ilembe Chamber Steering committee in November  

Julie Blevin, a Grade 6 pupil at Umhlali Prep. Was the winner of the Ballito leg of the popular Hirsch and Defy Junior Super Chef competition that was held in the Hirsch Ballito Showroom on May 12. Julie won a Defy hamper and hand blender, and will go on to compete in the Regional Finals of the competition that is being held at the East Coast Radio House and Garden Show on July 3. Ten contestants, ranging in age from 8 to 13, battled it out in the competition. They had to show off their cooking skills, using a mystery bag of products and cooking on a Snappy Chef induction plate and Defy Microwave Air oven to impress judges: award winning chef and owner of Harvey’s Restaurant, Andrew Draper,, Kerry Eb well known for her baking skills and owner of Lemon Canary, Kevyn Bys Owner of Cake man Durban and Chef of the Year , and David Hoehler food critic from the North Coast Courier. The competition was co-ordinated by the Hirsch team and Fine Young Cooks owner, Lewaine Von Alleman – who was extremely proud of Julie as she is one of her past pupils. Speaking on behalf of the judges, Andrew Draper said that he was extremely impressed by the high standard of preparation and cooking “Their adaptability was incredible. These kids are 100 steps ahead of us and a lot more sophisticated in their taste and cooking skills than we were at the same age. We were especially impressed with the sauces – containing just the right amount of spices and flavouring. The contestants have really done themselves proud!” Draper exclaimed. Kim Blevin, Julie’s mother thanked Hirsch’s for “giving our children this wonderful opportunity to grow in confidence. Thank you too for all the effort that went into making this competition possible; there was a lot of preparation involved and well done, it worked like clockwork!” Second place went to 13 year old Kaitlyn Damant from Ashton school and coming third was Benjamin Pilz - also an Umhlali pupil.

At the Ilembe Chamber’s Monthly Women in Business gathering that took place at the beautiful Kingsley House Guest House and Wedding venue  in Ballito, Karen Landman, the owner of locally based Simply Younique Modelling and finishing school  was announced as the November winner of the Margaret Hirsch Business Woman of the Month (Ilembe)  award and goes forward as a finalist in the competition.  Karen is also an international image consultant, wellness coach and educator, was crowned as Mrs. Durban , and was a Mrs. United Nations SA finalist in ,   The function, attended by a wide cross section of women in business in the Ilembe community was the last to be held this year.  Discussing the ethos of the forum, Ilembe’s Claire Phillips said that networking, exchanging ideas and attending the well thought out and implemented business courses that the Chamber put together for the local business community, was the best way for women to succeed in business, and the Chamber was delighted with the support from  business women in the community.  The next Ilembe Chamber Business Woman’s function will be held on February 7.   If you are interested in entering the Margaret Hirsch Business Woman of Month competition, contact Melissa at Hirsch Ballito on 032 .

Organised by Hirsch’s and held at Hotel Izulu in Ballito, world renowned nutritionist, Patrick Holford’s talk on Optimum Wellness was an unqualified success that will have locals talking for months to come. One of the most researched topics on Google is health and Hirsch’s are on a mission to promote wellness at all their branches, so were delighted to join forces with Patrick’s PR team, Urban House Media, and host Patrick at a talk at the beautiful 5 star Izulu Hotel in Ballito. Miele and Bosch gave demonstrations on a variety of health inducing products before and after Patrick’s talk. Also on the subject of wellness, Earth Watch’s Kerry Dell spoke about the “wellness (or lack of) of the planet”  and Integrated Health Practitioner, Dr. Hennie Palm, who has been giving wellness talks to Hirsch staff and has held some popular age management talks at branches – gave the vote of thanks. Hirsch Ballito recently surprised the Maguyane primary school’s Netball team with a visit – and the hand - over of brand new Netball kit for the first team. “This is fantastic, and will make us feel more like a team. We have never had our very own netball uniform so it’s going to be very nice to play together and look the same’ said one of the Maguyane first team players.

Zodwa Esther Costa was the well-deserved winner of the Hirsch’s Domestic Worker of the month prize which was handed over at the monthly Domestic training course held at Hirsch Ballito recently. Esther has been working for the Smith family for over 17 years and makes sure that the house runs efficiently. ‘’No matter what is happening in her life, she always comes to work on time and makes sure that the house is taken care of before going home…She is a part of the family!’’ Said Sally Smith, Esther’s employer. Esther will now be entered into the Domestic Worker of the year competition and stands a chance to win the overall title.
