The Hirsch Umhlanga team headed out to Mount Moriah on World food day to set up a soup kitchen in the area in which they are building an education centre with the help of Freedom Stationary. Said Hirsch Umhlanga PRO, Ana Sotero “We visited the children at their temporary location consisting of a number of containers. With the help and generous donations from the staff at Hirsch Umhlanga we were able to buy all the ingredients for a delicious chicken, vegetable and potato soup, bread and juice for 200 people. Our very own Shannie spent the morning cooking away to ensure that the children had fresh, hot soup! The children were beyond ecstatic. We were greeted by happy smiles and squeals. We served each class at a time and then finally the dedicated teachers. After all the hungry children had their tummies filled,  they joined us in the court yard to play and dance around.   Such a special day and Hirsch Umhlanga were so happy to have spent World Food Day with the beautiful children of Mount Moriah Educentre.

The team recently came together to celebrate the festive season for their annual Christmas and end of year function. The team consisting of almost 80 people headed down to Kaduta on Wilson's Warf for a night of great food  and lively music. Simone Smith from Tongaat won the prestigious award of Employee of the Month, while rockstar Shilton Naidoo won salesman of the year.   A very merry Christmas and a happy new year all!

Hirsch’s THANK YOU treat for Marshall Security Hirsch’s and Marshall Security have had a long standing, happy relationship for many years. When they approached the Security company at the start of the monthly “I Love Durban North Theatre Market” events, Marshall did not hesitate with regards to coming on board and assistwith the security at the event. Explained Hirsch Springfield Park’s PR and Marketing Officer, Bianca Hauser “Hirsch hosts the Theatre Market, on the second Friday of every month and the community are invited to attend, shop to their hearts desire, and watch a classic movie in the evening. Marshall Security have provided a reaction vehicle at each event, with security guards who walk through the park during the evening, making sure everything is okay. The staff who are at the event always wait for the last car to leave, and help us pack away. We wanted to say thank you to Marshall Security, not only for the hard work they put into the market every month, but also for everything they do for our community.” said Hauser. Recently the Hirsch Umhlanga team headed out to Mount Moriah Education Centre to celebrate the children’s graduation. This year Hirsch's is hard at work helping to build a pre-school for 200 children at the centre, which is close to Phoenix. The Hirsch Team headed down to the temporary school which is down the road from the new school’s construction site where a little marquee has been erected. Hirsch’s kindly donated their sound system and stage facilities for the occasion. There were speeches by the teachers and the principal Ms. Zulu. Next there was a little fashion show and some dancing. Hirsch Air's Janet addressed the school and all the parents on how blessed they were to be part of the special day Hirsch Air had graciously decided to put together their hard earned cash and supply the 250 children food and beverages. Crawford Pre-Primary La Lucia donated 250 FANTASTIC packs of gifts for each child. The bags were all different and corresponded to ages 8 - 3 years old. The Hirsch Group were proud to, once again, be part of Comrades. Every year, for the last five years Hirsch’s, the biggest independently owned home appliance and electronics company in Southern Africa, has hosted a water table, and the 90th Comrades Marathon was no exception, withover 100 volunteers from the staff and their families all cheering on the runners – several of whom were Hirsch staffers - that passed the Hirsch Water Table Being a proudly South African company, Hirsch’s were excited that South African runners came out tops in the race, with Gift Kelehe winning the men's race and Caroline Wostmann winning the women's race. Today, Discovery Medical joined the Hirsch's Umhlanga team and provided free health screening to Discovery team members. Team members not on medical aid were provided the opportunity to join. Discovery members were provided a number of tests such as blood pressure testing, glucose testing and even the optional HIV testing. Thank you to discovery for always looking after our team members! Hirsch Umhlanga recently held a fun cooking session with Elba and the International Hotel School.  IHS students Sphesilhle Dlamini and Mbali Majozi demonstrated a variety of delicious cheesy dishes from the At Home With Hirsch Cook book in the Elba Gas/Electric Oven.  The  audience watched the dem from start to finish and loved it. MARGARET HIRSCH’S BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR COMPETITION LAUNCHED IN UMHLANGA Over sixty business women in the Umhlanga region braved a cold and wet October evening to attend a star spangled launch of the Margaret Hirsch, Umhlanga Business Women of the Year competition at the Hirsch Umhlanga Showroom. The competition is being run on a monthly basis at all Hirsch branches, and will culminate in a Margaret Hirsch’s Umhlanga Business Woman of the Year winner being announced in each branch towards the end of . Over the last two years, Margaret  has been the recipient of a variety of awards to acknowledge her contribution to the business world in South Africa, from the BWASA  Business Woman of the Year (Entrepreneur) award in to SANLAM’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Entrepreneurship in .  This year she was a nominee in the  Standard Bank sponsored Business Woman of the Year (Topco) Awards.  “Winning these awards has been wonderful – both for Hirsch’s and for me personally, and I would like to see this happening to other women in business.”  Margaret explained when she decided to launch the Margaret Hirsch Business Woman of the Year Awards in each area in which Hirsch’s operates throughout South Africa. “As women, we tend not to be assertive enough.  There are so many fantastic women out there who are not coming forward to be acknowledged for their contribution to the business world, and I would like to encourage them to come forward and enter the competition or nominate a friend or business owner who they would like to be recognized for this award and if you think you are a successful business woman don’t be too shy to enter yourself!”  she said.    ü  Entries open on the 1st October  ü  Include entry fee of R payable on submission. Edwina Fletcher, who owns a successful online travel agency, Webtours, was announced as the 8th Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever of the Year finalist recently at Hirsch Umhlanga’s monthly Business Women’s networking session. Fletcher comes from a background of sales, employment and accounting, owned her own successful recruitment agency and has been nominated as Nedbank/ Femina - Women of the Year, owns and runs a successful online travel agency with the main focus being on leisure travel. "I opened Webtours with absolutely no travel background and started off organizing trips to Zanzibar. A year later I was established enough to make a living from Webtours and gave up my job as a book keeper. I have since gone on to specialize on specific holiday trips such as honeymoons, skiing and beach travel which have really taken off!" Fletcher said.
