Marshall Security have provided a reaction vehicle at each event, with security guards who walk through the park during the evening, making sure everything is okay. The staff who are at the event always wait for the last car to leave, and help us pack away. We wanted to say thank you to Marshall Security, not only for the hard work they put into the market every month, but also for everything they do for our community.” said Hauser. With the support of the greater Durban North community supporting the market, vagrants no longer inhabit the park. HIRSCH ANNOUNCES NATIONAL JUNIOR SUPER CHEF COMPETITION Hirsch’s and Defy have got together to launch the first, of what they hope will be many, Junior Super Chef competitions, with children from the ages of 8 to 13 being invited to enter. Commented COE of Hirsch’s, Margaret Hirsch “Our branch in the Cape – in Milnerton - is doing extremely well, with a customer base spread throughout the Cape. We wanted to make it easier for people coming from the Strand area to get to us, and found the perfect spot in Somerset West.” The new branch is situated in Dynagel street, opposite the Somerset West Shopping Mall, and will be open for business by the middle of September.

Hirsch Ballito and Sappi together with AMG put together a Wellness day held at Sappi for International Diabetic Day. Tiara from AMG demonstrated the AMG steaming pots and pans by cooking delicious steamed chicken and vegetables. Hirsch Ballito, ELBA and the International Hotel School had a fantastic express demo over the weekend, with Ramola Makan  from ELBA and Sphesihle Dlamini a trainee  Chef from the International Hotel School cooking scrumptious  Festive pecan and raisin stuffing and delicious Ginger Bread. Guests were fascinated to see how easy it was to cook and bake on the ELBA gas stove and Ramola gave interesting, diverse and easy cooking and health tips to the crowd – who contributed with their own informative and helpful cooking tips – so all in all, a great interactive cooking session!

Hirsch’s Boksburg is having a domestic workers workshop on Friday 19th August from 8:30 to 10:30. We would like to invite all house helpers to this event. We will have AEG showing how to clean the ceramic hop and how to maintain the vacuum cleaner. We will also teach them a new dish to prepare. Anyone is welcome to attend. Recently the Hirsch Umhlanga team headed out to Mount Moriah Education Centre to celebrate the children’s graduation. This year Hirsch's is hard at work helping to build a pre-school for 200 children at the centre, which is close to Phoenix. The Hirsch Team headed down to the temporary school which is down the road from the new school’s construction site where a little marquee has been erected. Hirsch’s kindly donated their sound system and stage facilities for the occasion. There were speeches by the teachers and the principal Ms. Zulu. Next there was a little fashion show and some dancing. Hirsch Air's Janet addressed the school and all the parents on how blessed they were to be part of the special day Hirsch Air had graciously decided to put together their hard earned cash and supply the 250 children food and beverages. Crawford Pre-Primary La Lucia donated 250 FANTASTIC packs of gifts for each child. The bags were all different and corresponded to ages 8 - 3 years old. Husband and Wife team and Hirsch Umhlanga top sales consultants Shilton & Suvashni from Hirsch Umhlanga also kindly donated 250 goodiebags full of sweeties

Every year, for the last five years Hirsch’s, the biggest independently owned home appliance and electronics company in Southern Africa, has hosted a water table, and the 90th Comrades Marathon was no exception, withover 100 volunteers from the staff and their families all cheering on the runners – several of whom were Hirsch staffers - that passed the Hirsch Water Table Being a proudly South African company, Hirsch’s were excited that South African runners came out tops in the race, with Gift Kelehe winning the men's race and Caroline Wostmann winning the women's race. Families brought picnic baskets or simply purchased nibbles from the amazing selection of food vendors at the market. Mary Poppins herself even paid a surprised visit much to all the children's delight! Everyone had a “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” evening of fun under the stars.

The Hirsch Umhlanga team headed out to Mount Moriah on World food day to set up a soup kitchen in the area in which they are building an education centre with the help of Freedom Stationary. Said Hirsch Umhlanga PRO, Ana Sotero “We visited the children at their temporary location consisting of a number of containers. With the help and generous donations from the staff at Hirsch Umhlanga we were able to buy all the ingredients for a delicious chicken, vegetable and potato soup, bread and juice for 200 people. Our very own Shannie spent the morning cooking away to ensure that the children had fresh, hot soup! The children were beyond ecstatic. We were greeted by happy smiles and squeals. We served each class at a time and then finally the dedicated teachers. After all the hungry children had their tummies filled,  they joined us in the court yard to play and dance around.   Such a special day and Hirsch Umhlanga were so happy to have spent World Food Day with the beautiful children of Mount Moriah Educentre.

Pepi’s topic for the morning was; Left of right? Does it matter? According to the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance, each side of the brain controls different types of thinking. Additionally, people are said to prefer one type of thinking over the other. “Our brains are divided into quarters; Left brain 1, which is the upper part of the brain, left brain 2, the lower part of the brain, right brain one, upper part of the brain and right brain 2, which is the lower part of the brain. L1 users are mathematical, problem solvers, technical and analytical. L2 users are planners, controlled, conservative and administrative. R1 are conceptualizing, synthesizing, imaginative and artistic people. R2 users are talkers, musical, spiritual and emotional. Understanding your personal thinking preferences will enable you to optimize your ability to adapt your thinking, decision-making or communication style to a given situation: it will also explain why it is easier to communicate with some people than it is with others.
