The not-to-be missed Dance ka Josh is an explosion of dazzling costumes, beautiful music and sensational dance and is on 17 and 18 September, for two nights only. Created by choreographer Versha Magan with support from Douglas Skete, Dance ka Josh is a vibey, eclectic mix of Indian classical Kathak, Bollywood, Indian Folk, Hip-hop, contemporary, jazz, and for the first time this year – ballet, woven with stories and set to a variety of Indian music. It is an exhilarating show that demonstrates true passion and drive for dance. Telling stories of love, passion, devotion, miracles and the triumph of faith, the dancers take the audience on a journey of delight and discovery. “ Dance ka Josh is an expression of the passion of what my soul feels and tells me about dance,” says Magan, producer, creative director and choreographer of the Jazzy Masala Academy. With a strong base of classical Kathak, Bollywood, traditional and folk dance, opulent costumes and swathes of colour and sound, Dance ka Josh, celebrates the magic of India and promotes cultural diversity in South Africa. The beautiful costumes – always a talking point – are inspired by a rich cultural heritage and made locally. With a history of sold out shows and standing ovations Jazzy Masala Creative always promises energetic, fun-filled performances that leave their audiences spellbound, wanting more. Dance ka Kosh features over 100 dancers, with both company and academy dancers performing in the various choreographies. Jazzy Masala Academy’s ethos of nurturing talent and creating platforms for artists is reflected in the production. Academy dancers are given an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by the company’s twelve professional dancers.Furthermore the Academy epitomises fun and reminds dancers that “when you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it’s to enjoy each step along the way”. Audiences discover too that this approach leaves them with light joyful hearts. “It is our vision to transcend cross cultural barriers by teaching various forms of dance to our divergent emerging youth, whilst at the same time embracing all people wanting to explore this form of artistic expression. It is in productions like Dance ka Josh that you can see this vision made real,” says Magan. Dance ka Kosh will be on at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, for two nights only; September 17 and 18.
