We prescribe re-application between 5 years as this is necessary for insurance purposes. What are the benefits of Fire Guard? Fire retardant is a guard that protects your thatch against fungus, UV light and bird damage – extending the life of your thatch. Fire retardant slows the rate of spreading of flames – reducing the fire to a shoulder. This will give you more time to evacuate the building or put the fire out. What is the cost? We measure the floor area from overhang to overhang, calculate normal floor area and then multiply that with 1.45 (the average angle of a thatch roof). This is the total thatch area.
