A green-skinned knight offers the Knights of the Round Table a simple but deadly challenge--a challenge taken on by the brave Sir Gawain. A challenge that will force him to choose between his honor and his life... @GawainsWorld So listen here, some green man came to the hall and wants someone to cut his head off. Some sort of dare? Could be fun, right? The deal is I cut off his head now, and he cuts off mine a year later. What a jester, doesn't he know he'll be dead? This goblin fellow is totally dead. All seemed fine until Ichabod Crane here fell to the floor, stood up, and picked up his head. His head, in his hands. In HIS HANDS From "Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books in Twenty Tweets or Less" Features Summary Written by an anonymous 14th-century poet, this epic poem is recognized as an equal of Chaucer's masterworks and of the great Old English poems, including "Beowulf... Until 1914 I knew only the Cape Peninsula. These reminiscences, therefore, are of that narrow strip of land between Cape Town and Cape Point, separated from the mainland by the Cape Flats."

In particular I have done my best to draw a pen picture of my beloved father, Eric Anderson Walker, as I knew him and his famous works. I have glossed over my own sadnesses and heartaches and extracted some of the more light-hearted anecdotes from the kaleidoscope of my life, referring'pari passu'to episodes in recent and contemporary History as they have impinged on me."

Earlier owner's bookplate to front free endpaper. A few fox spots to fore-edge, else fine."The name of John Blades Currey (1829-1904) is seldom mentioned in histories of southern Africa. Indeed, the young Englishman who arrived at the Cape in 1850 made little direct impact on its story. He was nonetheless to become a profound influence on some of the Cape's most famous men and an astute chronicler of the political and social events of his time. His memoirs, published here for the first time, cover half a century of Cape history, from 1850 to 1900. Soldiering, farming, copper-mining - Currey tried all these; then, on the advice of governor Sir George Grey he joined the Cape civil service. While in its employ in the late 1860s he was entrusted with the task of introducing to a sceptical Europe southern Africa's first diamond, the'Eureka'. Later, as secretary to the government of Griqualand West, he chose the new name of' Kimberley 'for the burgeoning diamond-fields town of New Rush. But in 1875 Currey was blamed for the diggers'rebellion there, and this led to his dismissal from office and blighted his subsequent public career. While he was in Kimbeley Currey befriended two young fortune-hunters, both of whom were to become renowned premiers of the Cape: Cecil John Rhodes and John X. Merriman. To both of them Currey was to remain a lifelong friend and counsellor.. He is revealed in the account not as a politician but as a man who helped to shape politicians, not as a man who made history but rather as one who was passionately part of it. The manuscript forms part of The Brenthurst Collection, as do the majority of the contemporary illustrations which complement the text." This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 20 - 25 working days This is the One is a fascinating insight into the mindset and winning temperament of the recently retired Sir Alex Ferguson, the most success manager in English football. When This Is The One was first published in 2007 it was hailed by Michael Crick as 'one of the all-time Manchester United classics' and featured by The Times in their quest to find the 'Best Ever 50 Sports Books'. Written over the course of two eventful and controversial seasons, it offers a unique portrait of Sir Alex Ferguson from Daniel Taylor's position behind the scenes as a football writer covering Manchester United for the Guardian. During the 2005-06 season, Taylor saw Ferguson at one of the lowest ebbs of his quarter of a century in charge, with a failing team, explosive fallouts with Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy, a disenchanted fan-base and speculation that he might be forced out of the job. The season that followed demonstrated why Ferguson deserves to be seen as the greatest manager the modern game has produced, with Manchester United deposing Chelsea as Premier League champions and eventually seeing off Jose Mourinho. Ferguson would later call it the 'greatest achievement' of his time at England's biggest football club. This Is The One is the close-up, warts-and-all account of what happened during those two helterskelter seasons - the excruciating lows and the exhilarating highs. It is also a fascinating exploration of the many different facets of Ferguson himself, from his infamous 'hairdryer' treatment to the softer, more humane side of the most successful manager in the business. Features Summary Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired after 26 years in May 2013, is the most successful manager English football has eveer seen. This Is The One offers a fascinating portrait of Sir Alex Ferguson from Daniel Taylor's unique vantage point as a football writer covering the club for the Guardian..
