TAR SEALCOATING IN SOUTH AFRICA
Asphalt Maintenance: Many factors can impact your asphalt pavement surfaces, such as: heavy traffic, water, weather, poor foundation and/or thickness of the asphalt. With all theses factors continuously and collectively damaging your asphalt pavement surfaces, the importance of maintaining and protecting your investment cannot be stressed enough. Crackfilling It is important to seal cracks in the asphalt pavement before they progress into wider and deeper gateways for water penetration. As with potholes, once water is allowed to enter the foundation, the foundation will begin to erode and lead to extensive and costly damage. Process: Any existing cracks greater than 1/4" will be blown free of all debris and dried by compressed air. Cracks will be filled with hot rubberized crack sealant which meets federal specifications of ASTM D. Filled cracks will be relieved of excess sealant by striking off top material to form a band of sealant which extends approximately 1" on each side of the filled cracks. Cover material with sand to minimize the tracking from tires and foot traffic. Any alligator areas with cracks less than 1/4” will not be included in crack maintenance. *All alligator areas with cracks that are wider than 1/4” and portholes will need to be repaired prior to sealcoating, by means of cutting and removing of damaged asphalt pavement and installing new hot asphalt pavement.
