STOP HUNGER NOW SA AND CANAL WALK COMBINE FORCES TO FEED THE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Canal Walk has transformed its Centre Court into a magical children’s theatre again this winter school holiday, but there is a more serious side to the latest production. All proceeds of programme sales, as well as a percentage of each ticket sold for Fred Abrahamse andMarcel Meyer’sbeautiful and magical adaptationof Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will go to Stop Hunger Now. And even if you do not get a chance to see the show, you can play your part in packing a million meals for hungry children for Mandela Day on Friday July 17 by joining one of the packing lines in the Canal Walk Food Court for 67 minutes.The millionth meal will be packaged in Cape Town by the Mayor, Patricia de Lille. According to the Children’s Institute more than 3 million children under the age of 17 experience hunger in South Africa. Stop Hunger Now SA aims to package 1 million nourishing meals for approximately 248 Early Child Development facilities nationwide for Mandela Day. Hyprop Foundation will be the anchor sponsor for the Cape Town event taking place at the Canal Walk Food Court. Each person packing will be feeding one child for an entire year and Stop Hunger Now is expecting corporate volunteers. A Stop Hunger Now SA packaged meal consists of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a mixture of 21 vitamins and minerals packaged into reasonable servings of six, which can be safely stored for up to a year. Besides the 126 companies and organisations which have sponsored one or more packaging lines, members of the public are also invited to package meals at times to be announced via the Canal Walk and Stop Hunger Now websites, and through media partners.
