Excerpt from Dedication of a Memorial to Reverend John Tucke, 1702-1773: Star Island, Isles of Shoals, New Hampshire, July 29, 1914 During the spring of 1914 the work of construction proceeded under the superintendence of Mr. Sullivan. No expense was spared to make the monument perfect, both in material and workmanship. Each of the large blocks fitted accurately, and was put in place without the least accident under the direction of Edgar Knowl ton, superintendent of the company. The monument is ten feet square at the base, and forty-six feet, six inches, in height. The inscription, containing about six hundred letters, square sunk one quarter of an inch, in smooth surface finely rubbed, occupies thirteen feet vertically of one Side of the shaft. The obelisk is in large blocks, and is designed after the Egyptian dimensions established as a standard thousands of years ago.  Thoughtless and Effortless by SC Stephens. Both books in great condition. Appear unread. Thoughtless:  For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender, and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart. Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source - a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and one thing's for sure - nothing will ever be the same. Effortless:  After being caught in the middle of a love triangle which led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she'd made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera's love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy...trust is hard.

For decades, Clive Cussler has been delighting readers with novels filled with suspense, action and sheer audacity. Now he does it again, in one of the wildest, most entertaining historical thrillers in years. April 1950: The rusting hulk of a steam locomotive rises from the deep waters of a Montana lake. Inside is all that remains of three men who died forty-four years before. But it is not the engine nor its grisly contents that interest the people watching nearby. It is what is about to come next...1906: For two years, the western states of America have been suffering an extraordinary crime spree: a string of bank robberies by a single man who then cold-bloodedly murders any and all witnesses, and then vanishes without a trace. Fed up by the depredations of 'The Butcher Bandit', the U.S. government brings in the best man they can find - a tall, lean, no-nonsense detective named Isaac Bell who has caught thieves and killers from coast to coast. But he has never had a challenge like this one. From Arizona to Colorado to the streets of San Francisco during its calamitous earthquake and fire, he pursues what is quickly becoming clear to him is the best criminal mind he has ever encountered, and the woman who seems to hold the key to the man's identity. Using science, deduction and intuition, he repeatedly draws near, only to grasp at empty air, but at least he knows his pursuit is having an effect. Because his quarry is getting angry now, and has turned the chase back on him. The hunter has become the hunted. And soon, it will take all of Bell's skills not merely to prevail...but to survive. Filled with intricate plotting, his signature dazzling set pieces, and not one, but two, extraordinary villains, this is the master working at the height of his powers. Large Softcover in good condition. Michael Joseph An Imprint of Penguin Books. 2007. 404 pages.

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 24 hours The #1 "New York Times" bestselling author delves into the world of elite firefighters who thrive on danger and adrenaline--men and women who wouldn't know how to live life if it wasn't on the edge. Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. But there's also little else as thrilling--at least to Rowan Tripp. Being a Missoula smoke jumper is in Rowan's blood: her father is a legend in the field. At this point, returning to the wilds of Montana for the season feels like coming home--even with reminders of the partner she lost last season still lingering in the air. One of the best of this year's rookie crop, Gulliver Curry is a walking contradiction, a hotshot firefighter with a big vocabulary and a winter job at a kids' arcade. And though Rowan, as a rule, doesn't hook up with other smoke jumpers, Gull is convinced he can change her mind... But everything is thrown off balance, when a dark presence lashes out against Rowan, looking to blame someone for last year's tragedy. Rowan knows she can't complicate things with Gull--any distractions in the air or on the ground could be lethal. But if she doesn't find someone she can lean on when the heat gets intense, her life may go down in flames.
