Paperback. English. Human Sciences Research Council. 2006. 364pp. In good condition. Coping with immigration and urbanisation in a rapidly globalising environment is one of the policy issues facing many governments, yet the complexity of migration makes it difficult for planners to understand its causes and plan for its consequences. In this wide-ranging work, prominent migration scholars provide insight into the current dynamics and determinants of both immigration and migration in South and southern Africa, and reflect on how the lifting of apartheid has affected migration in the region. The book covers three broad areas: macro-level migration trends in sub-Saharan Africa; micro-level factors in South African migration; and a synthesis of current migration theory. A crucial resource for policymakers and development planners, this volume also serves as a useful primer for students of urban planning, economics, demography, sociology, and development studies.

Often referred to as a workhorse the PzKpfw IV is certainly not a glamorous beast but from North Africa to the Eastern front it was a ubiquitous fixture on the various battlefields of WWII. Using archive and original photographs to lay down a visual time line for this Panzer's development, the book takes a historical overview of this strategically important tank. Description and definition of all the different Ausfs are included both within the introduction and captions. It applies recent findings to the analysis and commentary of the photographs. These include the authors own research into unit specific stowage and factory production differences, which feature for the first time within the context of a monograph looking at the vehicles overall evolution. Information that should be invaluable to both historians and modelers. Editorial Reviews Review "Peko Publishing have added yet another top shelf selection of reference material for modelers and armor enthusiasts alike. The quality and assortment of photographs used in this volume is only second to the informative captions accompanying each selection. This book is a great reference for modelers looking to accurize their next Panzer IV build while getting ideas for that next diorama. This volume will certainly not disappoint and is a 'must have' in any armor enthusiasts' reference library. " (Boresight, AMPS jourmal) --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition. Hardcover. English. Horace Cox, London. 1876 2nd ed. ISBN: n/a. 734 pp & 6pp ads at back, frontispiece, illustrated title page, 14 plates, numerous text illustrations, tables. Original somewhat scuffed green cloth over bevelled boards, front ep taped, with ownership stamp. Title page, facing illustration and title page heavily foxed. Page 455 is loosely inserted. This was published in seventeen parts, and is a guide to travellers, explorers, and settlers, founded on the experiences of the authors, and referring incidentally to South Africa. Wallis (J.P.R.) Thomas Baines, second edition, Cape Town 1976, pages 157-8. 'Apparently through the undertaking (the publication of Nature and Art) he came to know an ex-artillery officer, W.B. Lord, who had travelled in Canada and Asia and now proposed that he and Baines should collaborate to put out a travellers' handbook, something on the lines of Galton's Art of Travel. It was a bulky work of some eight hundred quarto pages issued serially towards the end of 1868, and involved Baines in a great deal of exacting preparatory work. He contributed the major part of the text and practically all the illustrations, some of which he cut on wood, having taught himself the art.' 'William Lord and Thomas Baines intended Shifts and Expedients to be a wide-ranging manual of instruction on the art of surviving in, and enjoying, the great outdoors of the nineteenth century. Pooling their considerable experience of strange lands they produced an encyclopaedia of practical living for the aspirant explorer of a hundred years ago. Everything is explained: wagons and boats, horses and oxen, tents and firearms, hunting and fishing, observing and collecting, carpentry and metal-working, camping requisites, bush cuisine, medical improvisation, the best ways to cross rivers, to move heavy objects, to build huts. The work is lavishly illustrated with wood-engravings by Baines. Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography Vol. 1 Book No: 2501231
