This is a specialist tool for bonsai artists, and specifically those who have junipers in their collection. When you are working on the live veins of your junipers you need to be able to lift the old, faded bark. You need to do so carefully or you will damage the live cambium beneath. Although this will heal it does not look very nice when the cambium is nicked as it is a very light cream colour, and when you oil the live vein to bring out the red colors, these nicks become glaringly obvious. This simple but ingenious tool enables you to get beneath the old bark, lift it and peel it away without damaging the live tissue beneath. On the other end is a tool which is much sharper and allows you to perform delicate carving work on jin's using a pulling action; like a scraper. The sharp cutting end may also be used to clean out rotted wood from old cuts or on collected trees, before sealing. This jin tool is part of our Japanese made Kikuwa bonsai tool range. Other economically priced tools from this supplier such as scissors, cutter and more are available from us. Each tool is packaged in a protective plastic pouch. Material Mixed materials Origin Japan

Scissors are the most commonly used bonsai tool and are the most crucial tool in the bonsai artists toolbox. For the price, these black carbon steel 19cm scissors made in China cannot be beaten. You will be able to use them to cut twigs and even thin branches. Anything thicker and you should consider purchasing the Bonsai Branch Cutter. The differences between scissors designed and made specifically for bonsai and normal scissors are many. Bonsai scissors have a completely different shaped handle which makes a lot of cutting comfortable. The blades are shaped differently and made considerably thicker to enable thicker cuts than a normal scissors can manage. The tips of the blades also slightly overlap to enable clean cuts, which in turn enables faster healing.

After investing in some good quality tools, looking after them will further ensure that you will have many years of good use out of them. A tool roll is the ideal way to preserve your tools and also to transport your bonsai tools to and from workshops, club meetings, demonstrations and more. These tool rolls have been made with very tough and hardwearing, washable cotton fabric. The flaps prevent the tools from falling out of the roll and also protect the tips of tools such as bonsai trimming scissors and jin chisels. Many people use tool boxes or tool caddies. The problem with these is that it is very easy for tools to get damaged from rubbing up to one another, and your hand can pick up serious injury as you go fishing through the tools trying to find the one you need. The tool roll is rolled up from the left and the ropes provided are then loosely tucked in to prevent the roll from opening up once again, until the tools are needed. No tools are included For complete tool care take a look at this bundle and save.

This is a very solid and useful combination tool from Kaneshin in Japan. Rakes are very useful tools especially when you are repotting your bonsai trees and need to rake out the roots. This is a very important step during repotting as you then need to use a pair of suitable scissors or root cutter to shorten the roots which developed since you last repotted your tree. Failing to do so will result in your tree becoming progressively weaker. This rake has 2 durable prongs which will minimize breakages in the root ball when you comb it out. The spatula is useful when you wish to tamp down newly applied growing media after repotting your tree. It is also very nice to use when applying new pieces of moss, to compact it onto the surface. The grip of the stainless steel version is very comfortable and the tool feels solid in the hand. Made from corrosion resistant material this tool will last for many years. The comfortable size of these small bonsai trimming scissors makes them ideal for use on a wide size range of bonsai including small to large trees. They are in fact internationally one of Kaneshin's top sellers, in the top 3 in fact. Also known as bud scissors, bonsai trimming scissors is the ideal tool for trimming leaves when defoliating, nipping out new buds and removing small branches. The blades being shorter than bonsai scissors, and smaller finger holes provide the best possible control of the tool when in use. This together with the overall more slender design enables the artist to reach into the canopy of a tree and make the required cuts with accuracy. The more slender and thinner blades make these scissors ideal for delicate work, however the ergonomic advantage generated by short blades and the positioning of the pivot point provides considerable cutting power. Another important feature of these small Kaneshin trimming scissors is that when a cut is made, and the blades of the scissors are closed, the metal shafts of the handles still do not touch which ensures that when working inside the canopy of a tree, accidental crushing of foliage or branches cannot occur. For smaller to large sized trees, they are very useful for removing twigs and even thin branches. All trimming scissors are in black steel finish are handmade by highly skilled artisans in Japan to ensure you many years of trouble free use. Each tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Trimming scissors are intended for small twigs, buds and generally softer growth. Thicker hardwood should be cut using appropriately sized bonsai scissors.

Features King Deluxe, famous Japanese brand. Fine (#1200) grit enables you to achieve sharp edges. Will not unnecessarily remove material from your expensive bonsai tools. No oil needed, soak in water prior to use. Description It is very important that when we use our bonsai tools to perform any cutting action, they should be as sharp as possible. In fact it is best that you sharpen your tools every time you start to work on a new tree. Failure to work with sharp tools means you will need to use unnecessary force to make cuts, the live tissue or cambium may be damaged which will retard the healing process and if severely blunt you may even damage your tools by attempting to cut with them. How to Use this Whetstone. Soak the whetstone in water for around an1hr. Remove the stone from the water and place on a level surface. As the stone dries rapidly add water when necessary to maintain a sort of wet paste. It should be sufficient to run the tool over the stone around 10 times. Once sharpened be sure to wipe the tool surface with vegetable oil to prevent oxidation/rusting. Dimensions 207mm x 66mm x 34mm

After a branch is removed it is necessary to remove the stub which remains. These are removed with a knuckle or otherwise known as a spherical knob cutter which makes a precise cut and gouges out part of the stem so that callousing will not cause a swelling in this area. This is particularly the case with species where the scar tissue tends to bulge. Cuts made with a concave cut heals faster than straight cuts.  The spherical blades allow for the ideal combination of strength and precision, making for a clean "biting action" into the material. The cutting blades shaped like two halves of a sphere. This shapes allow it to cut aggressively into the wood so protruding stubs, or knobs, are quickly cut away, and then leaves wound that will heal flush with the branch or trunk for minimal scaring. In other words, this tool will create a hollow circular cut with one stroke that will enable the bonsai to heal quickly with minimum scarring. Knuckle cutters may also be used as a finishing tool to remove root or trunk material in areas that are difficult to reach using other tools. However extreme care should be taken when using knuckle cutters on roots as they are not as sturdy as root cutters and can be damaged if you accidentally cut into a stone. Another useful function of knuckle cutters is that they may be used to nibble away wood when carving deadwood. As with all our Kaneshin tools, these knuckle cutters are handmade by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen. Each tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Size 150mm Material Steel Origin Japan To cut safely without damaging the tool, the thickness of the branch you want to remove should be 1/3 - 1/2 of the size of the blade.
