COUNTING WILDLIFE. THE ANNUAL HELICOPTER CENCUS - IN SOUTH AFRICA

Compiled by Mark Berry and Duncan MacFayden. E Oppenheimer & Son, Johannesburg, 2014. Hard cover with dust cover. 136 pages. Very good condition. Under 1kg. Counting game from the air is not an exact science. First introduced in the early 1970s, it was only from the 1980s that the programme became refined when Nicky Oppenheimer, Mark Berry and their teams regularly conducted aerial game counts on the various properties. Counting Wildlife, a photo-rich book compiled by Mark Berry and Duncan MacFadyen, tells the fascinating story of the  census process over 30 years, the evolvement of methodology and technology, and how the advent of the portable  computer, Bluetooth activated GPS and the digital camera brought about game-changers. This technology brought about huge paradigm shifts in both the process and the results.
