Here we have on auction a Rhodesian bushwar era original period item - a "RNG" stamped brass issue compass in great condition. Oh the stories and places that htis compass has likely been too - a real find from back in the day! The item is in reasonably good shape, but does has some wear-and-tear! The main fuid housing is intact - no leaks fo fluid, there appears to be nO bubble. Therefore as a compass this item is still usable! There is however s ascrew missin on the top cover for one of the guards over the see-through cover/ flap, but besides that it is good-to-go and would make an excellent piece for display and/ or reenactment! The stamped "RNG" refers to the Rhodesia and Nayassaland Governement which proceeded the UDI of Rhodesia and these compasses would have been absorbed as is into the armed forces of Rhodesia post-UDI. Please see the photos for further confirmation of the item's exact condition and further details of the piece. Please note that the background used for the photos is not included in this auction. Postage quotes supplied to the winning bidder and dependent on the persons location and preferred shipping/ postage method. Please note that due to work commitments I can likely only post or dispatch items on either Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings at the moment. Paypal gladly accepted for foreign bidders! Happy bidding!!!

Here on auction we have a very VERY rarely seen original period worn "Terr" SWAPO PLAN (Egyptian supplied - part of the rare "rocks camo reversible set I believe!) camo cap - field worn!!! LOOK at that wear-AND-tear!!! A real been-there & done-that item@!!! I wonder what stories this cap could tell if only it could talk!!!! - I strongly believe that these particualr caps were in-thearte (Angola) custom made and sewn items - from cloth supplied either from already sewn uniforms (cannibalised) or maybe from purpose ordered and supplied pieces - as this is def the reversible Egyptian camo cloth BUT the caps are nOT revirsible per se - I have seen approx 4 other identical sewn type pieces over the years so they not likely field-tailored or fully individual custom pieces - these are not sewn or designed as reversible pieces BUT one can see (next pic below) just-just a piece of the dark brown "rocks" from the other side of the cloth sticking out here, on the damaged brim............) Postage quotes supplied to the winning bidder and dependent on the persons location and preferred shipping/ postage method. 1991. Hard cover with dust cover; 144 pages. Very good condition. Tightly bound, neat and clean. Under 1kg. When he wrote this little classic, which historians of the period rank alongside Morris's more famous Washing of the Spears, sir Reginald Coupland was the foremost living authority on the history of the British Empire.   In Zulu Battle Piece he describes, with swift and vivid strokes, the situation between whites and blacks, the great military qualities and terrifying military tactics of the Zulu warriors and the characters of the Englishmen, soldiers and politicians, involved in the disaster: and then having the consummate art and scholarship prepared the reader, he sets the great action in that strange, eerie land, until the reader can truly feel that he has lived through it himself. The aftermath brings him to Rorke's Drift and the gallant British stand that averted irretrieveable disater.   In his new introduction to this readable and concise work, Ian Knight discusses Coupland's thinking and sets the book in its proper historical and literary perspective.

Boer War: Buitengewone Staats-Courant Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek  (Dated 27 November 1899). This item is an ORIGINAL,  period piece and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  A physical reminder of the most prominent conflict that shaped South Africa's history. This Buitengewone Staats-Courant was published on Monday, the 27th of November 1899 -  a month after the outbreak of hostilities at Colenso. The body of text is printed in Dutch and proclaims that all free citizens (burghers) of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek,  who qualify for and who have been called up for military service / commando duties - are no longer able to cancel their life insurance policies.  This was legislated to prevent the premature withdrawal of funds associated with policies due to the possibility of early death associated with conflict.   The text of the document is clear and is not obscured. Please note that the item is nearly 120 years old - so the paper will show signs of age and some discolouration.   An ideal historical piece, documenting the early days of the Anglo-Boer War, from the perspective of those living in the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek. A wonderful addition that would take pride of place to any collection of Boer memorabilia.   FOREIGN BIDDERS TO PAY USING BOB BUCKS -QUOTED SHIPPING  NO COLLECTIONS  PAYMENT IN 7 DAYS OR SNC  SEE SHIPPING
