 Recovered Wilkinson 1897 Pattern Officers Sword. This item was recovered from a Zulu kraal in the traditionally tribal area of Msinga, near Tugela Ferry in Zululand. It formed part of a large cache of confiscated sharp-edged weapons that had been accumulated in the former IFP stronghold, during factional disputes in the period 1990-1992.  The original history of the sword is unknown, except for the fact that it was intended for offensive use by those who had possessed it prior. Due to the rough conditions associated with the item's rural sojourn, the leather on the scabbard has expired and the steel basket handguard has been removed. However, the handle and blade are original and intact, with a few leather accoutrements surviving. NB: NO FOREIGN BIDDERS NO PERSONAL COLLECTION OF ITEMS PAYMENT TO BE MADE IN 7 DAYS OR AN SNC WILL BE FILED SEE SHIPPING OPTIONS.

Vintage SAPHI SADF officers peaked caps and a camoflague cap for 1 bid. I would estimate that these caps date to the 1950/60s. The lot consists of: 2 SAPHI SADF officers peaked caps without insignia. The caps are khaki coloured, with leather straps on the front. They are in fair condition - need a good cleaning. A medium peaked camoflague cap. I am not sure of the origin of the cap, but it has a red star on the front. It is in good condition - needs a cleaning. 3 Great military caps for 1 bid.

  ORIGINAL  and very rare uniform  that not many individuals had the need to own or wear as part of the SAAF. Prior to the war, this uniform would been worn for full dress occasions such as parades, funerals, royal functions, and only by career officers of which there were few. Many officers did not own uniforms like this as they were expensive and simply rented them. The dark blue tunic is worn with  red striped stirrup pants and patent leather boots with spurs. White gloves were regulation.  The tunic features a row of oversized  solid brass gilt buttons that are not found on any other uniform. This style was part of the army tradition that had carried on since the time of the RFC and the first world war. The later RAF had long since disbanded this style but since the SAAF retained army ranks and traditions, this uniform was retained. The high red collar features  beautifully embroidered SAAF collar devices, surmounted on a red wool high collar and outlined in gold wire russian braid. The full dress SAAF wing is  hand embroidered in bullion thread.  The pointed gilt bordered  sleeves are similar to the uniforms worn during the first world war and became obsolete by the twenties. Once WWII arrived, these uniforms were never worn again. This uniform for sale is missing the shoulder boards,the pilot wing is loose and so is one collar badge One button on the sidecap has been replaced by a Italian WW2 button and the cap badge is missing Label is intact in pocket of tunic.Tunic is a medium size with armpit to armpit being 46 cm.The pants is a 30 inch waist. Probably used in the 1877-1878 Russo-Turk war or in later and earlier conflicts.Markings under the guard seem to indicate XI. Army Corps - Tarutinskaja and Kanszany - very little is known about these swords and there are few references anywhere - These swords would appear to have been bought from German makers in Solingen and marks added. There are three ominous notches on the guard. During the war there were over 90000 casualties in 10 months. Condition- Blade has been split in the front (these are generally made by the sword of an opposing cavalry opponent in a charge) Leather has been shrunk eroded away to a degree - Hilt is solid and original wire bindings are intact Length 103cm  - 40.5 inches Blade 85cm 33.5 inches. S.A.D.F. Officers Ceremonial Sword complete with its Scabbard.- Solingen. This sword is the one in the photo. Its number is 3621. There are no scratches marks or blemishes on the sword and its blade is very shiny, in fact it can be said that this sword is in a very good condition. On the scabbard the leather tie down strap is torn off. All markings are as shown in the photo. The length of its blade is 80cm.

This seal skin leather was sourced from a local SA boot manufacturer that makes actual boots from seal skin.
