Niger 6000 francs Stop Malaria Africa Elephant 2005 Edition Technical Specs Presentation Country:   Niger Metal Purity:     Box:   Year of Issue:   2005 Weight:   CoA:   Face Value:   6000 francs Dimensions:       Quality:       Mintage:     Coin has some scratches (please check photos of item) Niger (Listeni/?na?d??r/ or /ni?????r/; French: [ni???]), officially the Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in Western Africa, named after the Niger River. Niger covers a land area of almost 1,270,000 km2, making it the largest nation in West Africa, with over 80 percent of its land area covered by the Sahara Desert. The country's predominantly Islamic population of 17,138,707 is mostly clustered in the far south and west of the nation. The capital city is Niamey, located in the far-southwest corner of Niger.Niger is a developing country, and is consistently one of the lowest-ranked in the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI); it was ranked last at 187th for 2013. Much of the non-desert portions of the country are threatened by periodic drought and desertification. The economy is concentrated around subsistence and some export agriculture clustered in the more fertile south, and the export of raw materials, especially uranium ore. Niger faces serious challenges to development due to its landlocked position, desert terrain, high fertility rates and resulting overpopulation without birth control, poor education and poverty of its people, lack of infrastructure, poor health care, and environmental degradation. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

1973. Hard cover with dust cover; 191 pages. Very good condition; neat and clean. The dust cover is worn. Hard cover is excellent.  Under 1kg. Group Captain Douglas Bader became a legend in his own lifetime. Legendary, too, are the Spitfire and the Hurricane, Britain's two most famous fighter aircraft. Bader lost both his legs in a flying accident in 1931, was invalided from the RAF in 1933, and rejoined in 1939. He rapidly became one of Britain's foremost aces and was brought down in France in 1941 and made prisoner of war. His story begins with the birth of these two great aircraft. The Spitfire and the Hurricane flew all over the world in every conceivable flying condition but their greatest contribution was during the Battle of Britain in August 1940 when they outflew the Luftwaffe and changed the course of history. This account is interlaced with Bader's own memoirs nd those of his fellow pilots. He assesses the aircraft themselves, describes his methods of fighting and recounts some memorable experiences.

AFRICA@WAR SERIES: VOLUME 11 THE FLECHAS In 1961, Portugal found itself fighting a war to retain its colonial possessions and preserve the remnants of its empire. It was almost completely unprepared to do so, and this was particularly evident in its ability to project power and to control the vast colonial spaces in Africa. Following the uprisings of March of 1961 in the north of Angola, Portugal poured troops into the colony as fast as its creaking logistic system would allow; however, these new arrivals were not competent and did not possess the skills needed to fight a counterinsurgency. While counterinsurgency by its nature requires substantial numbers of light infantry, the force must be trained in the craft of fighting a small war to be effective. The majority of the arriving troops had no such indoctrination and had been readied at an accelerated pace. Even their uniforms were hastily crafted and not ideally suited to fighting in the bush.  In reoccupying the north and addressing the enemy threat, Portugal quickly realized that its most effective forces were those with special qualifications and advanced training. Unfortunately, there were only very small numbers of such elite forces. The maturing experiences of Portuguese and their consequent adjustments to fight a counterinsurgency led to development of specialized, tailored units to close the gaps in skills and knowledge between the insurgents and their forces. The most remarkable such force was the flechas, indigenous Bushmen who lived in eastern Angola with the capacity to live and fight in its difficult terrain aptly named Lands at the End of the Earth. Founded in 1966, they were active until the end of the war in 1974, and were so successful in their methods that the flecha template was copied in the other theaters of Guin and Mozambique and later in the South African Border War.  The flechas were a force unique to the conflicts of southern Africa. A flecha could smell the enemy and his weapons and read the bush in ways that no others could do. He would sleep with one ear to the ground and the other to the atmosphere and would be awakened by an enemy walking a mile away. He could conceal himself in a minimum of cover and find food and water in impossible places. In short, he was vastly superior to the enemy in the environment of eastern Angola, and at the height of the campaign there (19661974) this small force accounted for 60 per cent of all enemy kills. . Hardcover with laminated boards. Written by John Laband, published by University of Natal Press, 2001. 140 pages. Tracked postage is R60.00. The Later Zulu wars of the 1880s were a last-ditch resistance to colonialism combined with bitter civil war, and their consequences proved more devastating for the Zulu people than the famous Anglo-Zulu war of 1879.  They took place at a time of changing fighting methods and tactics for both the British and the Zulu - the last time the British Army went on campaign wearing scarlet was in Zululand in 1888. This book explains the nature of the diverse Zulu, British and Boer military forces fighting in Zululand, and the ways in which the British and the Boers fostered and exploited divisions among the Zulu people in order to maintain colonial control. The author's research (supported by detailed maps) traces the complex series of wars and battles in Zululand during the 1880s. He places the campaigns in their historical context and assesses their broader significance.

2015 paperback with 320 pages in very good condition. R65 postage in SA. A tremendously useful, insightful study of the frightening spread of a culture of death. Hosken does an excellent job of sorting out the American reaction, the failure of the Iraqi leadership in the form of Nouri al-Maliki and others, and how IS has becomes the richest terrorist group in the world." In June 2014 Islamic State launched an astonishing blitzkrieg which saw them seize control of an area in the Middle East the size of Britain. The news was soon filled with their relentless acts of savagery, yet nobody seemed to know who they were or where they'd come from. Now BBC reporter Andrew Hosken delivers the inside story on Islamic State. Through extensive first-hand reporting, Hosken builds a comprehensive picture of IS, their brutal ideology and exterminationist methods. Equally compelling and horrifying, Empire of Fear reveals how Islamic State came to be, explores how they might be defeated and asks a frightening question, if they were brought down, could we stop another group emerging to replace them?
