Millennium Snow focuses on Chiyuki Matsuoka, a high school girl hospitalized with a heart problem. Since birth her heart has been very weak and she was told that she would probably live to be only fifteen. However, one day she meets T¿ya Kan¿, a vampire, with the opposite problem: T¿ya lives for about one thousand years. It's customary for a vampire at his age of eighteen to choose a human partner to be with for 1000 years who in turn would let him drink their blood and share his life span for the millennium. Early in the series, Chiyuki offers T¿ya her blood, so that she would be able to live longer, but T¿ya refuses, claiming he dislikes the sight and taste of blood. In the beginning, he even looks down on humans, believing that they are weak creatures who will only die before him and leave him behind, but later on he, with the help of Chiyuki, starts to see the world in a different perspective.   Seventeen-year-old Chiyuki Matsuoka was born with heart problems, and her doctors say she won't live to see the next snow. Toya is an 18-year-old vampire who hates blood and refuses to make the traditional partnership with a human, whose life-giving blood would keep them both alive for a thousand years.

Information is presented in a simplistic, yet very accurate, highly visual format. An optional CD ROM is available for purchase that demonstrates the blood flow pattern for the various structural heart lesions presented. This program targets the learning needs of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and others involved in the care of young infants with CHD. The first section of the book covers physical exam of infants with suspected CHD. The second section details the anatomic features, clinical presentation and initial stabilization of neonates with CHD. Specific heart lesions are covered in detail including those that are cyanotic ductal dependent, cyanotic not-ductal dependent, and left outflow tract obstructed ductal dependent lesions. The final section discusses modifications to the six S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, Emotional support) assessment components that are necessary when caring for infants with suspected or confirmed CHD. Prompt, effective, and appropriate care of these infants can reduce secondary organ damage, improve short and long-term outcomes, and reduce morbidity and mortality. This is a must-have, excellent resource that is also very useful for explaining cardiac lesions to parents Features Summary Provides important information about neonatal stabilization for maternal/infant healthcare providers in all settings - from community hospitals and birth centers... Revelations Weaving together many ideas about reconciliation after war, this novel introduces characters--mostly artists and activists--who, after the liberation of South Africa, try to understand what they fought for and why. At the center of the story is a South African dance troupe that has recently returned from Chile. Broadening the debate, the members of this group report onviolence against native people on another continent andprovide a parallel that enlarges the South African perspective. Soon after the boy is ritually initiated into manhood, messengers from the hills bring whispers of war; rumours that the Shah's army is moving from village to village, stamping out any tribal rebellion that may stand in the way of the creation of a unified 'Iran'. Just nine years old, the boy must stand alongside his men and fight for their land. Years later, Reza Pahlavi Khourdi can only faintly recall the brutal murder of his father and cousins. Orphaned on the bloody battlefield, conscripted into the great column of the army and given a new name, he has quickly risen up the ranks, proving both his prowess in battle and allegiance to the Shah's troops. Now in Tehran, Reza is about to marry to a beautiful, educated, city girl, and become a Capitian. But there are stirrings within his heart. He will soon move west to be the Shah's servant in Kermanshah, the land of his birth, and a figurehead of modernization. At once rich and bleak, The Age of Orphans unleashes a tapestry of untold horrors and pleasures, of blood and smoke, hopes, dreams and desires. It is a profound and darkly poetic story of a land roughly sewn together under the ambitious imagining of a nation, and of the life of a boy whose identity does not - can not - unite with this vision.
