This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days In his eighth book of poems, John Koethe offers readers the reflections of a poet in midlife, an "aging child of sixty-two," passionately engaged with the world yet drawn to meditate on memory, time, and the mysteries of human existence. In "Ninety-fifth Street," Koethe retraces narratives from his life and moves across various landscapes he once inhabited; in his hands these stories and places become poems of beauty, feeling, and poignant candor. Disarmingly conversational and always accessible, these new poems offer the pleasures of a lucid intelligence and a distinctive poetic voice, by turns contemplative and worldly, lyrical, witty, and elegiac. How remarkable is its unforced naturalness: this is the hard-won product of a whole culture and a mature talent. From the impressionability of his boyhood and adolescence comes his intimate sense of place and atmosphere, and from his good nature such affectionate portraits as those of Uncle Danby and the Farmer."- From the Introduction by William Plomer

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days "Lars Gustafsson has an uncompromising vision of the utter complexity of modern life."-"The New York Times Book Review" From the moment it begins, Lars Gustafsson's "A Time in Xanadu" throws open questions of geography and narration. Where are we? How do we know? Throughout the book, the speaker's voice proves a powerful one as it muses on questions of travel, war, philosophy, and thought itself. The language of Gustafsson's poems is sparse, and his lines are compact and taut. But beneath the neat surfaces of these poems lie surreal and sometimes eerie landscapes: a castle in Cremona, Italy; "those white, strangely meaningless / days between Christmas and New Year;" a library which is "a kind of subway." There are strains of Ezra Pound in this work, and allusions to great continental thinkers-Goethe, Fichte, Nietzsche, Einstein-drift across it. Yet tracing those allusions to their source is neither desirable nor, ultimately, possible. For in the wake of Gustafsson's highly evocative poems, we can only wonder just how much time we have spent, or lost, in Xanadu, or where we went from there. "The Khan leaves Xanadu and milk from white goats only is hurled high into the air on his departure to nourish the spirits of the air. So says Marco Polo, our Venetian witness." Lars Gustafsson is a renowned Swedish poet, novelist, and philosopher who has written dozens of books. He taught philosophy for many years at the University of Texas, Austin. He now lives in Sweden. Features Summary Lars Gustafsson--poet, novelist, and philosopher--is one of Sweden's leading and most prolific writers. Book still in an excellent unmarked condition.   >>>     I guess I never considered to put this book in my Goodreads library because it isn't "my" book... it's my daughter's.  But given the number of times that I have read through it this year, I realized I like it a whole lot. And hey! It's a book that I've read! So who cares if it wasn't exactly one of my choosing. I particularly love the poems... through them I learned about Christopher Robin's brother, John. (I didn't know Christopher Robin had a brother!) My daughter loves the Heffalump story - especially the conclusion, which is sometimes the only part of the story that she'll let me read.:) Overall, it's a wonderful collection.  (Goodreads) *N.B.*  If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage on each of  the additional books  – Please see what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while – Also note that I am only able to post once a week.

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 20 - 25 working days Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, this unrequited love story will appeal to fans of Jennifer Niven, John Green, and Jesse Andrews. Seriously, how can you see a person nearly every day of your life and never think a thing of it, then all of a sudden, one day, it's different? You see that goofy grin a thousand times and just laugh. But goofy grin #1,001 nearly stops your heart? Right. That sounds like a bad movie already. Matt Wainwright is constantly sabotaged by the overdramatic movie director in his head. He can't tell his best friend, Tabby, how he really feels about her, he implodes on the JV basketball team, and the only place he feels normal is in Mr. Ellis's English class, discussing the greatest fart scenes in literature and writing poems about pissed-off candy-cane lumberjacks. If this were a movie, everything would work out perfectly. Tabby would discover that Matt's madly in love with her, be overcome with emotion, and would fall into his arms. Maybe in the rain. But that's not how it works. Matt watches Tabby get swept away by senior basketball star and all-around great guy Liam Branson. Losing Tabby to Branson is bad enough, but screwing up and losing her as a friend is even worse. After a tragic accident, Matt finds himself left on the sidelines, on the verge of spiraling out of control and losing everything that matters to him. From debut author Jared Reck comes a fiercely funny and heart-wrenching novel about love, longing, and what happens when life as you know it changes in an instant. Features Summary Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, this unrequited love story will appeal to fans of Jennifer Niven, John Green, and Jesse Andrews.
