Silver colour badge in first two photos only. So far, I just can't find out which badge this is, or even one single other image of this badge on the net. It is genuine it seems, what is this badge ?. Nobody can tell me. The original owner is no longer alive, so I can't ask him. It was collected in Zimbabwe. It is similar to the Prince Alfred's Guard badge in the third image. The fourth image is that of a Zulu shield. So it seems to be South African. There were quite thick pieces of bare copper wire cut off from the clasps. I would think it is anything pre-1950. Feel free to let me know. As per photos. Sold as is.

Subtitle: An Anthology  Editor: Claudia Bathsheba Braude  Publisher: David Philip () ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Condition: As New Binding: Softcover Pages: 168 Dimensions: 21.5 x 13.7 x 1.5 cm +++ edited by Claudia Bathsheba Braude +++ Together with Claudia Bathsheba Braude's path-breaking introduction, the stories collected in this anthology tap silences that were central to apartheid rule and that have particular resonances for South African Jewish history and memory. The book traces the construction of memory and racial identity in South African Jewish literary and cultural history. The contributors include Nobel Prize–winning novelist Nadine Gordimer; well-known writers such as Rose Zwi and Dan Jacobson; exiled ANC activist and constitutional court judge Albie Sachs; and satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys, a penetrating critic of apartheid.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. The  Carrefour Press, 1989. 210 x 135 mm; pictorial wrappers; pp. 48. Very good 1st edition. "I know of no other poems which depict more poignantly the experiences of being a white African during this time of transition. Eppel has no stars in his eyes, he offers no visionary of prophetic consolations: but the clarity of his sight makes for poignant yet reassuring poems. Some of the best, such as 'The Visitation', transcend his historical anxiety." - Guy Butler.

Collected when the South African military withdrew from the Border, and appearing only now almost two decades later, A Secret Burden allows the reader an intimate and sometimes shocking glimpse of the hardships that these young men endured - it is an expression of the bewilderment, anger and bitterness that they felt at the time.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers.
