These are in wonderful unread condition. The slight discolouration you see is the natural aging tone to the calf skin vellum.   34 volumes, octavo. Original full vellum with 22-carat gold blocking, including titles to spines, armorial device to front boards and ruling to spines and front boards, gilt edges, marbled end-papers, printed on Archive Long-Life Text Paper. Illustrations throughout. Each book has it's own green sleeve. Typical natural variation to the tone of the vellum bindings but overall a bright set. The first collected works of Sir Winston Churchill. The Centenary Edition is the only full collected works of Winston Churchill, reproducing his 50 books in 34 volumes. The Library of Imperial History went bankrupt before the projected run of 3,000 sets could be completed, so "the print run never exceeded 2,000 copies and only 1,750 sets were ever published ". five million words in 19,000 pages,. Be the only owner in SA to own this beautiful set. Double value in 10 years. Great investment.

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days TCG is proud to conclude the centennial year of Thornton Wilder's birth with the publication of Volume Two of his collected short plays. Thornton Wilder -- winner of three Pulitzer Prizes (one for fiction; two for drama) -- was not only one of America's greatest men-of-letters, but one of the most popular and most enjoyed. In addition to such highly regarded and popular novels as The Bridge of San Luis Rey and The Ides of March, he was one of our most successful playwrights. To this day, Our Town, The Matchmaker, and The Skin of Our Teeth remain among the best-loved and most-produced plays in the canon. To many contemporary playwrights, Wilder is -- together with Gertrude Stein, whom he championed -- the font of experimental drama in America. The diversity of form in his best-known works proves his mastery. Though his full-length works were few, he is widely perceived as one of this century's major American dramatists. Features Summary Volume Two of the collected short plays by one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. Now available once more here is the author's long out-of-print first collection of one-acts... Author Thornton Wilder (Author), A. Cities are not only made of buildings and roads, but they are also constructed through popular imagination and memory as evidenced in this collection of oral and visual histories drawn from the people who live, work, and creatively express themselves in Cape Town, South Africa. The collected works move beyond apartheid history to analyze the reflective ways in which people are coming to terms with that history through memory, work, performance, and memorialization. "The overriding strength of this book is that it places people—ordinary people—at the centre of memory, at the centre of historical and contemporary experience, and thus at the centre of reimagining and owning the city of Cape Town. It is as they speak—what they choose to say, what they choose to remain silent about—that we become aware of the possibilities of the city, if it really did embrace all its people, in all of their diversity." —Mike van Graan, from the foreword. This new, enhanced leather-bound edition collects the legendary fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. They are the stories we've known since we were children. Rapunzel. Hansel and Gretel. Cinderella. Sleeping Beauty. But the works originally collected by the Brothers Grimm in the early 1800s are not necessarily the versions we heard before bedtime. They're darker and often don't end very happily--but they're often far more interesting. This elegant edition of Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales includes all our cherished favorites--Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Cap, and many more--in their original versions. With specially designed end papers, a genuine leather cover, and other enhancements, it's the perfect gift for anyone looking to build a complete home library. Many of these tales begin with the familiar refrain of "once upon a time"--but they end with something unexpected and fascinating! Excerpt from Document Showing the Testimony Given Before the Judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of the State of Missouri, on the Trial of Joseph Smith, Jr., And Others, for High Treason, and Other Crimes Against That State: February 15, 1841 As regards the affair at 'de Witt, I know little personally; but I heard Mr. S. Rigdon say they had gone down to De Witt, where it was said a mob had collected to wage war upon the Mormons residing in Carroll county; and that Joseph Smith, jr., with his friends, went down to De Witt to give aid and help to, his brethren. The company, as I presume, were armed. They returned armed. Hiram Sm'nh and George W. Robinson were in the company. 'amasa Lyman went to seewhat was going on. He heard these persons say they were in Hinkle's camp (at De Witt) several days. When the Mormons returned from De Witt, it/was rumored that a mob was col leeting in Daviess county. Joseph Smith, ir., the Sunday, before the late disturbances in'daviess, at a church meeting, gave notice that he wished the whole county collected on the next day (monday) at Far West. He declared (on Sunday or Monday - rl don't recollect which) that all who did not take up arms in defence of the Mormons of Daviess. Should be consid ered as tories, and should take their exit from the country. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
