THE SNOW FALCON BY STUART HARRISON A magnificent gyrfalcon, soaring in the air over rocky cliffs, is winged by a hunter and falls to the earth wounded. Rescued and taken to a nearby farmhouse, the bird's plight will irrevocably change the lives of her savior, Michael Somers, and the woman and child Somers comes to love. Somers has returned after many years to his hometown of Little River Bend to unlock the secrets from his own past that drove him to almost destroy his family in one night of irrational violence. Released from treatment, but shunned by his neighbors, Somers is determined to heal the bird, whom he named Cully, and release her to freedom. Watching from afar as Somers coaxes the bird to fly is a deeply troubled little boy, Jamie Baker. He has lost the power of speech after witnessing his father's death in a hunting accident and his mother, Susan, yearns to free her child from his self-made prison.   SOFT COVER IN GOOD CONDITION 1999 PAGES: 423

First Edition, Collins, London, 1963. Hard Cover, Red cloth boards, with gilt title, author and publisher on the spine. The binding is sound, with square, un-bumped corners. There is a very little shelf wear to the tail end of the boards, head and tail of spine lightly bumped. If not for sellotape stains The boards would be near fine, (It seems that the dust wrapper was repaired with sellotape on the inside, the fatty residue of the sellotape has unfortunately marked the boards, both front and back). End papers are maps, paste down end-papers still bears some residue of the ghastly sellotape, front free end paper has a booksellers ink stamp with price on it. Page opposite title page has a previous owners name written on it otherwise the contents are clean and bright an occasional fingerprint is some-times discernible. Dust Jacket is illustrated and has NOT been clipped, it is bumped, with scuffing and minor chips, Head corner of front wrap has been badly "gouged", and front head corner nearest spine has a small chunk missing, but is otherwise complete, And of course it has the terrible sellotape stains. Wrapper is now in a removable protective cover. From the blurb: "This impressive novel of the Boer War is painted on the immense canvas of the African veld - thousands of square miles of it - where Boers, British soldiers, women and children move over the plains and mountains in battles among burning farms".
