Some light browning on front and back. Note, opened on top. View scans for condition as it form part of the description. (not 100% sure whether this cover was part of the crash flight, it reached Paris only on 16 November 1932, most covers of this date, 27 Jan 1932, was on that flight, due to the lack of info, thus the low price) 1932-01-29 B Imperial Airways De Havilland DH 66 “City of Delhi” crashed in Northern Rhodesia on the official First Flight from South Africa to England.

UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA 1st stamp of second pair stamp with "twisted horn" variety, first stamp of first pair with shaded or "coloured in" value tablet. Second stamp of second pair with "line" underneath "I" of "SUID". Stamps perf down, first pair is an arrow pair, as you can see. Stamps are all unmounted mint, light mount in the margin only. SACC catalogue value for one pair unmounted with "twisted horn" variety is R6750 (R4500 + 50% for UM). Ordinary arrow pair catalogues at R1200 (inverted w/m & UM) + 10% for arrow pair. Issue I was produced from a 240-unit Cylinder with it's number "12" imprinted on the right margin at the end of the 20th row. There were no bars on the top or bottom margins, but the top margin of the sheets in the final printings appeared with an unusual cylinder flaw in the form of a prominent brick-red mark varying in length and thickness above the centre arrow. It was caused by the chromium plating beginning to peel off the copper cylincer and from first of all being barely visible, it developed to the final stages where it stretched from above stamp no. 4 to the edge of no. 9. The flaw had a flattish base, but with a very much indented top line, not unlike a range of mountains seen at a distance - a feature which earned it the name of the "Drakensberg" variety. Quite exceptional item superb MNH but for 3 light hinge marks in margins. The first and scarcest stage of the flaw. Second stage Next stage The final stage

Top Coin. Colouring alone is very attractive. Ship Side: Just under the '1' of the '1/2D' is a small mark. About the only thing worth mentioning and the main blemish on this of the coin. Head Side: In front of the King's face left, there are some very small marks. Then from the bottom right leg of the first 'R' in IMPERATOR to above the next letter 'A' are two line scratches. That seems a bit more exaggerated in the photo, but it is there. That is the main blemish on this side of the coin. Sold as is.
