We are always happy to combine items for shipping purposes, and will normally ship your item within one working day of receiving your payment.  This is a superb example of WW1 Trench Art. A Pair of German 8 cm Cartridge Cases. They both depict two Lions which are outlined by hammering the brass. They  appear to have been manufactured in different factories. Possible one German the other Austrian. They are date stamped 1917 & 1918. The one stamped 1917 has what I think is the Imperial German Eagle above the makers name. This mark is not on the 1918 case.  They are 220 mm tall, base diameter is 87 mm and they weigh 1904 grams.

DESCRIPTION: A cast iron/forged steel and copper mortar, made from a shell casing, and pestle. Mortar possibly used during the Anglo-Boer (South African) War 1899-1902. MARKS: Mortar: 14/5/96, Crow's Foot/Broad Arrow, 5/96 and various indistinct marks. Pestle: 3 1/2. CONDITION: With some dents, tarnish, scratches, rust and verdigris deposits. DIMENSIONS: Mortar approximately 7.5cm base diameter X 16.5cm height and pestle 3cm X 30cm. NETT WEIGHT: Approximately 3.4 kg.
