On offer is a cover (PFSA Certificate no. 11657/2004) with the extremely rare double circular "Umtonjaneni" datestamp with backstamps recording the cover having passed through Vryheid (17-12-97) to Stellenbosch (24-12-97). According to Putzel, this postal agency, located on the south-eastern border of the Transvaal and Natal, opened on 1 August 1896 as "Umtonganeni" and was renamed in 1897. A rare and historic item of Transvaal postal history. Condition as per scans below.

  1871 (24 Mar) Cape P.O. printed " List of Letters Dispatched " form for the Wellington Post Office, addressed to the Post Office at " Nells Poort " and rated "-/6d", marked " Missent to Marico ", the notation and rate mark deleted and apparently returned to Pretoria (28 April) and forwarded via Potchefstroom (2 May) to Nelspoort. Rare and most unusual. Provenance: Dr Alan Drysdall, 2006. As per scan below.        

Proving cover with ring type numeral canceller "14" and single circle Pilgrims Rest datestamp (26-4-1887) with inverted year slug, forwarded via Lydenburg (27-4-1887), GPO Transvaal (29-4-1887) and Cape GPO (6-5-1887) to England (1-6-1887). The 2 x 4d Vurtheims make up the 8d rate to the United Kingdom. Rare cover. Condition as per scans below.
