Cloud Operations Engineer Multinational eLearning start-up based in the UK are looking for a Cloud Operations Engineer to join their small, high-end team based? Cape Town. The varied responsibilities required of an Operations Engineer requires a deep understanding of Linux server administration, networking and key applications and services running on virtualized and non-virtualized platforms. The role's primary focus is the simplification of provisioning instances of the company's Web based products & services by leveraging software development and open source solutions to automate the many tasks required to enable and manage our offerings. In addition, Cloud Operations engineers are responsible for complex problem resolution, creating and improving procedures and facilitating communication. Other duties include researching, proofing, and authoring technical documentation that are beneficial to the company. Responsibilities also include providing oversight of a number of hosted Linux systems, databases, network troubleshooting, and providing various technical solutions to the business. Experience/Skills Required This role is critical to the success of Proversity and as such requires both depth and breadth in most of the technologies leveraged in a complex data center environment to support multi-tiered applications. Furthermore a solid understanding of the components required to provide high-availability application and networking environments is required. Required - 2+ years experience in a 24×7 high-availability production environment; - 1+ year Linux System Administration in a complex environment; - Expertise in deploying Web Applications such as Django, Rails or Node.js in multi-tier architectures; - Expertise in the development and management of Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery environments; - In depth understanding of TCP/IP LAN/WAN networking & troubleshooting; - Experience with relational and "NoSQL" database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis and MongoDB. - Queuing systems such as RabbitMQ, ØMQ, etc. - Software based firewalls, load balancers and proxy servers; - Intrusion detection systems and network and server security hardening; - Virtualization technologies such as Virtualbox, VMWare and KVM; - Source Code Management (SCM) systems such as Git and Mercurial; - Experience in monitoring, metrics collection, and reporting using open source tools; - Experience with Ansible, Chef or Puppet; - Good knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Ruby, etc. - Excellent organizational & communication skills; - Ability to work with minimal supervision, making decisions based upon priorities, schedules and an understanding of business initiatives; - Critical attention to detail, thoroughness and documentation; - Providing rotational on call support; Advantageous - Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and related tools; - Infrastructure automation using Ansible; - Experience with containerisation using Docker and related tools; - Experience with containerised Continuous Delivery systems; - Experience with Microservices architectures; - Experience with the Go programming language; - Security compliance experience such as ITIL, PCI, ISO or SOX; - Understanding of DevOps principles and practices;

Responsibilities: Analyse requirements and design and implement solutions for our web application platform. Innovate and create new, out-of-the-box solutions for existing pain points and new projects. Enhance, maintain, and support existing web platform components. Manage technical aspects of platform modules belonging to larger projects. Write design and other documents, unit tests and user documentation. Work with QA team to develop capacity, integration and regression test cases. Debug and fix platform application and framework defects. Create tools to facilitate troubleshooting and resolve site issues quickly. Represent Platform Engineering team in cross functional meetings. Some of the responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Designing solutions, creating prototypes, writing and testing scripts, and deploying the solutions. Qualifications and skills: Three years experience: strong in Java and JavaScript. Proficient in OOP in Java. Comfortable working with MacOS X, and Windows. Comfortable in *nix environments, Java, SpringMVC, Hibernate. Good knowledge of Parse and AWS platform services. You write well-abstracted reusable code. You have stellar communication skills and work well with others. Excellent knowledge of node.js cross-platform server-side runtime Solid knowledge of common web front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Backbone). REST API design and implementation experience. PLUS: Android and iOS experience a plus. PLUS: If you have worked in an Agile environment (or at least know what this is and want to).
