It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days This is the first critical edition of the original 1625 travel account by Anthony Knivet, an Englishman who spent nine years in Brazil in the last decade of the sixteenth century. His is the oldest extensive account of Brazil written by an Englishman, but despite its historical, geographical, and ethnographic relevance it has never merited an annotated (or even a separate) edition in English. This edition, which includes a detailed introduction and extensive notes, allows the English-speaking public to follow Knivet's compelling tale. The account describes Knivet's incredible adventures, experienced roughly between 1592 and 1601, which include working as a drudge for the governor of Rio de Janeiro, escaping into the hinterland to live with native tribes and joining in expeditions of conquest and gold-seeking. The story provides a unique insight into early colonial Brazil and the myriad of people occupying its territory: Portuguese settlers, mixed-race servants, Indians, slaves, and European travellers. What do you need to know to survive college? Valmont University freshman Hamilton Carr thought that most everything had been covered in the freshmen orientation. Unfortunately, no one told him what to do if he ever found himself waking up in the hospital, soaked in his own pee, and missing his shoes. How does one handle a situation like that with dignity and grace? Find out in this hilarious tale of college misadventures. Author Devin DeShields combines stories from his own college experiences with anecdotes related by four different friends to create Hams adventures. The blend of nonfiction memoirs and fictional characters keeps the writing sharp, witty, and real. It may sound completely insane, but nothing is too strange or shocking to include in The Hammy Grail. Anyone with a frail constitution or aversion to recklessness may be advised to stay away! For some, Hams journey may be a trip back in time. For others, it can serve as a cautionary tale about the dos and donts of college life. Feel free to take Hams lessons to heartor throw the book out and make your own mistakes. Its the mistakes that tend to be the most memorable experiences of all. About the Author Devin DeShields may have a respectable life now, but he still remembers the days when he and his friends were eighteen-year-old college freshmen, up for any adventure life threw their way. Few fantasy adventures have ever captured the imagination the way Raymond E. Feist's magical Riftwar Saga has. Praised as a creation that "invites comparison with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" The Riftwar Saga was the tale of a young sorcerer whose destiny would forever change the fate of two enchanted realms. — Now Raymond E. Feist returns to the world of that stunning creation with a novel as electrifying as any he has ever written. The twenty years which have passed since the end of the Riftwar have been quiet and prosperous. King Lyam has ruled the nation firmly and gently. Prince Arutha has justly governed the city of Krondor. Young Jimmy the Hand has evolved from a roof-running thief into Baron James, an invaluable aide to Arutha. But the years of tranquility are destined to end. For King Lyam has produced no heir and Arutha, heir apparent, has renounced his claim to the throne--leaving Arutha's son Borric next in line for the crown. Borric and his twin brother Erland have learned a great deal about brawling, wenching, and gambling...but little else. Now they must quickly master both maturity and statecraft.Meanwhile, on the kingdom's southern horizon, the Empress of Kesh is about to celebrate her Jubilee. Arutha decides to send Borric and Erland--this is precisely the kind of diplomatic mission that could turn his foolhardy boys into reasoning adults. But little does anyone know that a seething rebillion lies just under the surface in the Keshian provinces, and that devious and deadly intrigue is the game preferred by all in the Keshian court. When as assassination attempt is made on the twins' lives--by a member of the Keshian royal family--the two princes are faced with a deadly adventure...one that will take them into the dark heart of Kesh, where grave danger and strange magics lie in wait. The work of a master storyteller at the top of his form, Prince of the Blood is epic fantasy at its very best. Forward lean.

A masterly meditation on trauma, on beauty, on the idea of home and the limits of love' Guardian Charlie's experiences at the Battle of Kohima and the months he spent lost in the remote jungles of Nagaland during the Second World War are now history. Home and settled on a farm in Norfolk and newly married to Claire, he is one of the lucky survivors. Starting a family and working the land seem the best things a man can be doing. But a chasm exists between them. Memories flood Charlie's mind; at night, on rain-slicked roads and misty mornings in the fields, the past can feel more real than the present. Though hidden even to himself, the darkest secrets of Charlie's adventures in the strange and shadowy ridges of the Nagaland mountains, his dream-like encounters with the mysterious and ancient tribesmen, leak and bleed through his consciousness. What should be said and what left unsaid? Is it possible to forge a new life in the wake of unfathomable horror? A beautifully conceived, deftly controlled and delicately wrought meditation on the isolating impact of war, the troubling legacies of colonialism and the inescapable reach of the past, Georgina Harding's haunting, lyrical novel questions the very nature of survival, and what it is that the living owe the dead.
