Rue, also called Wynruit in Afrikaans, Lengana in Tswana and Mohlonyane in Sotho, is a small, hardy, evergreen shrub. It bears small, yellow, waxy flowers and has attractive pale green-blue leaves with an unusual musky scent. To the Greeks and the Romans Rue was considered the herb of grace, and all brides traditionally carried a sprig of Rue in their wedding bouquet. The Renaissance painters in Europe are reputed to have consumed large quantities of Rue tea to restore failing eyesight. It is said that Rue was one of the ancient strewing herbs. "A favourite Arab herb, the only one to be blessed by Mohammed" (rev. The Encyclopedia of Herbs and Spices, A. Clevely, .) Priced from R60~R120

(This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) This newest addition to the IXMarks series presents a clear, straightforward statement of the gospel, the third mark of a healthy church. What is the gospel? It seems like a simple question, yet it has been known to incite some heated responses, even in the church. How are we to formulate a clear, biblical understanding of the gospel? Tradition, reason, and experience all leave us ultimately disappointed. If we want answers, we must turn to the Word of God. Greg Gilbert does so in What Is the Gospel? Beginning with Paul's systematic presentation of the gospel in Romans and moving through the sermons in Acts, Gilbert argues that the central structure of the gospel consists of four main subjects: God, man, Christ, and a response. The book carefully examines each and then explores the effects the gospel can have in individuals, churches, and the world. Both Christian and non-Christian readers will gain a clearer understanding of the gospel in this valuable resource. Format:Hardback Pages:128

Life is not a bed of roses, God is not an old man sitting in a cloud, winning isn't everything. Some negations, however, are more informative than others. Thinking about why an egg is not an elephant won't get you very far, whereas realizing life is not a dress rehearsal might. It's a reminder that this life is a one-shot deal, and if you mess it up, there's no second try." In Should You Judge This Book by Its Cover?, philosopher Julian Baggini examines the meanings behind a host of everyday expressions. Is it really always better to practice what you preach? To do as the Romans do? To be safe, not sorry? In his quest for clarity in everyday language, Baggini leaves no saying behind as he considers such expressions as "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Far from a reference book, this entertaining collection is full of short, stimulating capsules of defiantly clear thinking that are meant to fuel thought and conversation. Features Summary It's easy saying what things are not. Life is not a bed of roses, God is not an old man sitting in a cloud, winning isn't everything. Some negations, however... Traditional sources tell how he was raised in poverty and unschooled in religious tradition but began to learn the Torah as an adult. In the aftermath of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 C.E., he helped shape a new direction for Judaism through his brilliance and his character. Mystic, legalist, theologian, and interpreter, he disputed with his colleagues in dramatic fashion yet was admired and beloved by his peers. Executed by Roman authorities for his insistence on teaching Torah in public, he became the exemplar of Jewish martyrdom. Drawing on the latest historical and literary scholarship, this book goes beyond older biographies, untangling a complex assortment of ancient sources to present a clear and nuanced portrait of Talmudic hero Rabbi Akiva. 2014 eerste uitgawe sagteband met 197 bladsye splinternuut. R50 posgeld in SA.
