Chord Company Leyline LSOH speaker cable Chord Leyline speaker cable came into being during the first wave of home A/V set-ups.   Amplifiers for all rooms were often fitted in one place. This meant long (and sometimes very long) runs of speaker cable throughout the structure.  It also meant that the cable had to be discrete and affordable.  There were already a lot of cheap cables available, so we needed to develop something better.  Size restrictions meant using 16AWG conductors.  Long runs meant using a twisted pair design which suited us as we already using twisted pair geometry to produce speaker cables anyway.  Cost ruled out silver-plating or using PTFE, so after much thought we settled on oxygen free copper conductors and low-density polyethylene insulation for conductors. The problem came with longer runs and a loss of high frequency detail along with space and coherence. We solved this by tin-plating the conductors. It wasnt an overly bright cable and would now carry high frequency detail over longer runs.  The final version of Leyline featured tin-plated oxygen free copper conductors, low density HDPE insulation, a twisted pair conductor configuration and a protective LS0H outer jacket (low smoke, zero halogen), meaning Leyline can be used in public buildings. Leyline is also a great choice for rear speakers in bigger systems.  It can be used with pretty much whatever level of speaker cable you choose for the front speakers, with no loss of overall balance. With the design of The CLEARWATER, it was our intention to produce the best match between quality and price. The decision was taken to work with 2 groups of strands with a conductor size of AWG 14; this because in many situations the distance between the amplifier and the loudspeakers is limited. Therefore a twin-lead construction was made with 2 x 98 strands of a dense very pure silver coated Matched Crystal (MC) OFC. The two conductor groups are twisted in opposite directions. The resistance of each lead is: 0.9 Ohm/100 meter. The capacitance between the two conductors is: 17.5 pF/meter. Sonically this cable is a great product with a very balanced overall quality. There is no harshness and the spatial reproduction is superior. JUST AS ITS NAME SAYS: "THE SOUND IS AS CLEAR AS WATER" The cables jacket is made of transparent HULLIFLEX ® 3, a robust halogen free material excellently capable of shielding the copper conductors from the chemically threatening outside world.  The jacket on each lead is different in shape and the flat middle section in between has a printing on one side: both properties are easy polarity finders. Chord Company Sarsen speaker cable Why cant you make a decent lifestyle speaker cable, asked an exasperated retailer?  We do, we replied. Its called Chord Rumour, its white, its only 6mm in diameter and its really flexible. Too big, was the reply.  Its got to be much smaller. We knew smaller cables were available, but hadnt paid them a lot of attention on the grounds that nothing wed heard that size was any good.  Making a better one was an interesting challenge. Speaker cables need to carry as much information as possible and critically, they need to carry dynamic information particularly the micro-dynamic detail that sets the rhythm and structure of a piece of music.  Without that, everything is going to sound ordinary and uninvolving.
