Kratos has a new range of moves, combos and magic to unleash but the biggest changes are in the variety of monsters he has to face. The bigger ones can only be beaten with special button presses, which result in some spectacular finishing moves such as the Cylops whose eye Kratos plucks out of its socket or the cannon fodder zombies he slices in two. One of the best sequences though has Kratos leaping off the back of a Pegasus and onto a Gryphon, whose wings he promptly pulls off before falling to the world below. Most exciting moment: Just like the original this game recreates many of the best moments from ancient Greek mythology and movies. One particularly cool sequence involves trying to get a golden fleece that can reflect back the stony gaze of a gorgon. Since you ask: Many fans were surprised that this sequel wasnt on the PS3 but a next generation version is being planned. Original creator David Jaffe isnt working on either sequel at the moment though, but on an as yet unrevealed PSP project. Review If theres one thing to be said of the Need for Speed series, its that it never stays the same for long. After only one sequel EA have decided to give the underground night racing theme a rest and let you drive in the sunlight for a change. Youre still a super-illegal street racer though and indeed much of the game revolves around you being pursued by the police in some very Blues Brothers-esque chases. Appearing to take a leaf out of Burnout s book, the game encourages you to make the most of traffic and roadside objects, in order to put off the long arm of the law or simply one of your fellow racers. The demo race so far seen features a lot of weaving in and out of traffic and some very cinematic touches such as zipping underneath a giant lorry carrying tree logs, which then spill out on the road behind you further aiding your escape. The graphics in the game have definitely received a boost from the last one and appear far more detailed and ambitious in scope than Underground. Unsurprisingly the ability to customise your car is still a large part of the appeal, although again theres a big distinction between extras that are just for show and performance tuning that actually has an effect on the way your car performs. SingStar Legends - Solus (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description SingStar Legends - Solus (PS2) Review In a nutshell: The SingStar karaoke juggernaut rumbles on with a particularly generous selection of 30 new songs featuring music legends from Elton John to Nirvana and Tina Turner to Johnny Cash. The lowdown: After the rather niche Singstar Rocks and SingStar Anthems this latest expansion has a much broader song selection. The rather loose theme is that all the songs are by music legends, rather than one hit wonders, and youve got the likes of Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Life on Mars by David Bowie and Ring of Fire by Jonny Cash. As usual all the songs include the original music video (if they had one), giving visual accompaniment to classics such as The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, Roxanne by The Police and Rocket Man by Elton John. Of course whether youll still love all these golden oldies after theyve been desecrated by a drunken SingStar session is another thing. Most exciting moment: The eight player, pass the microphone mode is still the best way to play SingStar and there arent really any new game modes here to beat it. There is a new feature that lets you compare your crooning with that of the real artist though, even if the game does seem to be rather kind in most of its comparisons. Since you ask: SingStar has already been confirmed as appearing on the PlayStation 3, in fact its was one of the first games to be demoed using the online shop, where you can download individual songs you want instead of having to buy whole expansions like this. The bottom line: One of the best SingStar expansions, with at least a few songs for everyone.- HARRISON DENT

Tak and the Power of JuJu (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Tak and the Power of JuJu (PS2) Review Tak and the Power of JuJu is a cartoon-styled action platformer. Like most action platformers it has a cute main character, an ineffectual bad guy and lots of running and jumping over...platforms. The problem for any new platformer appearing today is that it's such an old and long-ago-mastered genre that any new game has got to have something pretty special in order to stand out. Tak 's primary attempt at a unique selling point (apart from the fact that it was made in conjunction with Nickelodeon) revolves around the various animal-based puzzles (all the villagers have been turned into sheep by the aforementioned bad guy) created by various inter-species rivalries (orang-utans hate sheep for some reason) and bribery with food. This aspect of the game can occasionally be inspired but unfortunately the solution to each puzzle is rarely less than obvious. The rest of the game is strictly by-the-numbers, with inconsequential combat, an obtuse camera system and far too many objects to pick up. Tak and the Power of JuJu is by no means a bad game--it is in fact a slightly above average game--but it's unlikely to enthral unless you've really not played this sort of thing before. And if you haven't then the likes of Jak II, Ratchet & Clank 2, Ape Escape 2 and ICO come much more highly recommended. -- David Jenkins

Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (PS2) Review Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is the third in the successful mission-based stealth series that first appeared on the PlayStation in 1998; few changes have been made to the basic format. Players can once again choose to be either Rikimaru, the silent, sword-wielding assassin, or Ayama, the acrobatic younger ninja. Both characters pass through the same game world, but each has slightly different goals that take them on different routes. A third character can be unlocked later on. During the first mission you're required to choose a number of weapons to aid you in your immediate tasks. Throughout the game more and more weapons, from melee to ranged weapons, are added to your arsenal depending on your performance during each level; your chosen weapons dictate how you approach the mission goals. The silent approach is encouraged and there's a variety of graphically satisfying stealth kills that will only work if you remain elusive and strike unexpectedly and silently. Aside from the stealth kills, graphically the game is a mixed bag. Light shimmers off your sword menacingly, but the environments are textureless and repetitive and the game fails to maximise on differences between light and dark areas to add to the experience. Also, the stealth dynamic is made less challenging by the shortsightedness and slow reactions of the enemy guards and the iffy AI: guards will give up searching for you within seconds and are unable to follow you through doors. This turns a potentially atmospheric and tactical stealth game into a hack-and-slash arcade romp. Multi-player options are included though, so if you feel the need for a more realistic opponent you may want to call a friend. Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven remains an enjoyable experience despite the flaws. While being pretty basic, it remains challenging; numerous set pieces manage to paper over some of the weaknesses. It's just a shame that after doing so much to establish and define the stealth-game genre this fails to raise the bar or introduce any novel elements. It feels more like an update of the first game, and while this is no bad thing, fans will probably be expecting more; gamers new to the series may be less forgiving towards it. -- Chris Ryan

Just Cause (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Review In a nutshell: Grand Theft Auto might give you the freedom of a whole city or county but in Just Cause youve got the task of overthrowing a 250,000 acre island all on your lonesome in the worlds first Che Guevara simulator. The lowdown: Taking inspiration not just from Grand Theft Auto but also Mercenaries and old Amiga classic Midwinter you play CIA black ops agent Rico Rodriguez as he attempts to overthrow the evil dictator of the fictional island of San Esperito. Despite the huge island and the complete freedom of movement you have on it the game actually only has 21 story missions. There are over 300 side missions but it quickly becomes obvious that these fall into only a very small number of different styles, not all of which are all that entertaining. What makes the game fun though is just wandering off and doing your own thing, which invariably involves upsetting the local military or dr.g lords and instigating a massive, impromptu firefight. The game may lack depth and variety but it offers a freedom to explore and cause chaos that few others can rival. Most exciting moment: As impractical as it may seem youve always got a grappling hook and a parachute, which allows you to lock onto any vehicle and commandeer it whenever you want. It also lets you perform some utterly outrageous stunts as you parasail behind boats and jump from a moving aircraft straight onto a road convoy miles below you. Since you ask: Instead of storing the island of San Esperito as a gigantic map the game uses a new technique called procedural synthesis to create the landscape on the fly. This is the only way to make such large scale graphics work on the PS2, especially when youre flying miles above the island. The bottom line: Che Guevara meets James Bond in this shallow but satisfying sandbox game. HARRISON DENT Manufacturer's Description In Just Cause, you take on the role of the flamboyant Rico Rodriguez - an undercover CIA operative specialising in regime change - as he tries to overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. This rogue South American island is suspected of stockpiling WMDs and it's your job to negate the threat to world peace. It could be to your advantage that this tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction. Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignment however you want: play the island's factions off against one another; incite a rebellion among the masses; or build alliances with rebel forces and dr.g cartels. The incredibly detailed game world consists of 1,225 sq. miles of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages which can be explored by land, sea and air. And you will have at your disposal one of the most varied and exciting array of vehicles, planes and watercraft ever seen in a video game.
