A full-size correctly named WW2 and Police medal group to WO Stephanus Jacobus Marais SAP number: 197959. Confirmed POW. See pictures of records below. Court mounted for display. PLEASE note: on the reverse of the medals there is some non-acidic clear silicone, probably to keep the medals in place. The medals are correctly named (see pictures) and are in good condition, no damage - my view. The POW status is also confirmed in King's book on the Police - see pictures.   The above picture shows where some twit used non acidic silicone to keep the medals in place. This does not detract from a good complete POW group. The above picture shows the naming on the 1939/45 Star. Naming on the Police Star of Merit shows he received this medal on the 16/05/1965. Naming on the Police Good Service Medal. The above confirms his POW status (Terence King book). Marais's name just above the ruler. WW2 medals confirmed in his records. A nice complete Police WW2 POW medal group. Worthy of much more research. Above WW2 record shows him missing and then confirmed POW. Overseas bidders welcome but you retain the risk of postage. No paypal - only Creditcard. NO SAPO for domestic bidders - only POSTNET (R120.00) or Courier (Please wait for charges). Please do not ask for SAPO as I will delete your bid and register an SNC, even if you win. If you don't like the postage options - Don't bid. Only SA bidders who can access Bobpay or the CC facility should bid. No paypal. Postnet costs include packaging and transport. Hard cover with jacket Published by Ian Allan in -  first edition 136 pages with some B&W photographs Red boards in very good conditi on with only minor bumping to spine ends. Internally too the book is in very good condition. Jacket has edgewear with some minor tears to the foldover edges. Light tanning to foldovers mainly at ends. Jacket is not price-clipped.    Most great escape stories so far told have been concerned with the exploits of officer prisoners of war in well-known camps like Colditz and Stalag Luft III. Less well-known but equally heroic were those of the large numbers of RAF NCO pilots, observers and air gunners who fell into German hands. Although early in the war they shared camps with their officers at places like Sagan and cooperated closely in developing effective escape organisations, the NCOs were soon segregated into their own compounds and left to their own resources in the ceaseless struggle to escape. A particularly notorious NCO camp was Heydekrug on the Baltic coast in what was East Prussia – the scene of one of the most remarkable POW exploits of the war. Warrant Officer George Grimson succeeded in establishing an escape route within Nazi Germany itself. One of the great classic escape books, Sergeant Escapers  tells the story of George Grimson and his fellow NCOs and their attempts, successful and unsuccessful, to outwit their captors, frequently in conditions that made Colditz look like a rest camp. The author, was himself a POW and an eye-witness to the unfolding drama of the Grimson escape saga.                   We do combine postage with other purchases so click here to see other books we are selling
