Araucaria cunninghamii Seeds Araucaria is a genus of evergreen coniferous trees in the family Araucariaceae. There are 19 extant species in the genus, with a Gondwanan natural distribution in New Caledonia (where 13 species are endemic), Norfolk Island, eastern Australia, New Guinea, Argentina, Chile, and southern Brazil. The genus is familiar to many people as the genus of the distinctive Chilean pine or monkey-puzzle tree, Araucaria araucana. No distinct vernacular name exists for the genus. Many are called "pine", although they are only distantly related to true pines, in the genus Pinus. Araucaria cunninghamii is a species of Araucaria known as hoop pine. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine, Queensland pine, Dorrigo pine, Moreton Bay pine and Richmond River pine. The scientific name honours the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham, who collected the first specimens in the 1820s. The species is found in the dry rainforests of New South Wales and Queensland and in New Guinea. The trees can live up to 450 years and grow to a height of 60 metres. The barough, splits naturally, and peels easily. The leaves on young trees are awl-shaped, 1–2 cm long, about 2 mm thick at the base, and scale-like, incurved, 1–2 cm long and 4 mm broad on mature trees. The cones are ovoid, 8–10 cm long and 6–8 cm diameter, and take about 18 months to mature. They disintegrate at maturity to release the nut-like edible seeds. The wood is a high quality timber that is particularly important to the plywood industry and also used for furniture, veneer, joinery, panelling, particle board, flooring and boats. Most natural stands in Australia and Papua New Guinea have been depleted by logging. It is now mainly found on timber plantations; however, the species continues to thrive in protected areas, including Lamington National Park where at least one walking track is named after it.

Pinus banksiana  Bonsai Seeds Pinus banksiana commonly known as Jack Pine is an eastern North American pine. Its native range in Canada is east of the Rocky Mountains from the Mackenzie River in the Northwest Territories to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, and the north-central and northeast of the United States from Minnesota to Maine, with the southernmost part of the range just into northwest Indiana and northwest Pennsylvania. It is also known as grey pine and scrub pine. Pinus banksiana ranges from 9–22 m in height. Some jack pines are shrub-sized, due to poor growing conditions. They do not usually grow perfectly straight, resulting in an irregular shape similar to pitch pine (Pinus rigida). This pine often forms pure stands on sandy or rocky soil. It is fire-adapted to stand-replacing fires; with the cones remaining closed for many years, until a forest fire kills the mature trees and opens the cones, reseeding the burnt ground. The leaves are in fascicles of two, needle-like, twisted, slightly yellowish-green, and 2–4 cm long. Jack Pine cones are usually 5 cm and curved at the tip. The cones are 3–5 cm long, the scales with a small, fragile prickle that usually wear off before maturity, leaving the cones smooth. Unusually for a pine, the cones normally point forward along the branch, sometimes curling around it. That is an easy way to tell it apart from the similar lodge pole pine in more western areas of North America. The cones on mature trees are serotinous. They open when exposed to intense heat, greater than or equal to 50°C. The typical case is in a fire; however cones on the lower branches can open when temperatures reach 27°C due to the heat being reflected off the ground. Additionally, when temperatures reach −46°C, the cones will open, due to the nature of the resin. On offer is a pack of 10 Seeds

Pinus thunbergii  Bonsai Seeds Pinus is a genus of approximately 120 species of monoecious, evergreen, coniferous trees or shrubs, widely distributed throughout the world particularly occurring in mountainous and arid conditions where they are able to thrive. Pines are a classic bonsai species in Japan and the world over, they are not however, easy trees to care for and style without experience. Pines have their own growth patterns that differ greatly from deciduous and common coniferous species; these growth patterns need to be understood before successful styling and pruning can be carried out. As can be seen in the accompanying pictures; pines are not only used for bonsai in Japan, they are also very often seen cloud-pruned in Japanese gardens. Pinus thunbergii is a native of Japan and is arguably the classic bonsai pine species. The Black Pine is a very vigorous tree commonly grown Japan in parks and ornamental gardens where heights of anything up to 25metres are commonly reached. Black Pines are very tolerant of poor conditions, surviving in nature on barren, stony soils. Pinus thunbergii has thick, dark grey-green needles up to 7-15cm long, though quite long, the needle-size can be reduced in length with the use of bonsai pruning techniques. Bark is purplish-grey and becomes very craggy and fissured with age. White pines are frequently grafted onto the more vigorous Black pine, Pinus thunbergii, rootstock to improve vigour and growth-rate. On offer is a pack of 10 Seeds

" Pinus ponderosa, commonly known as the Ponderosa Pine, Bull Pine, Blackjack Pine, or Western Yellow Pine, is a widespread and variable pine native to western North America. The ponderosa pine is the official state tree of the State of Montana. The Ponderosa Pine has a very distinct bark. Unlike most conifers, it has an orange bark, with black lining the crevasses, where the bark "splits". This is most noticeable amongst older Ponderosa Pines. The tree can often be identified by its characteristic long needles that grow in tufts of two or three, depending on subspecies. The USA Register of Big Trees lists a Ponderosa Pine that is 72m tall and 820 cm in circumference. Get your home in full festive swing with this tall, sturdy artificial Christmas tree. At the heart of the holiday home, a great Christmas Tree creates that magical festive feel — with many happy memories being created in the glow of its twinkling lights. Re-defining the perception of artificial Christmas trees as we know them. Choosing your tree: consider the space in which you intend to place your new Christmas Tree — fuller trees with their numerous, robust branches and wider profile make a great focal point for larger, open rooms, while slimmer trees bring festive feel to smaller/ narrow spaces without overwhelming the room. Tip-count explained: the higher the number of tips an artificial tree has, the fuller the tree will look. To shape your new tree, lightly fluff the needles, branches and tips for a full, realistic look after unpacking. Easy to set up and pack away after the holiday season. Realistic, hard-tip needles cover evenly-spaced branches — perfect for displaying special holiday ornaments. A unique, subtly-muted silver-like tint of the needles makes this tree a fresh choice for the holiday season.

Only available to South African customers. About I usually release some of my Japanese Red Pine stock at the beginning of summer (seedings) and older plants at the end of the growing season, during winter. These plants have been grown by myself, from seed purchased from reputable sources in Kinashi, Japan thus they are guaranteed to be the species as claimed. My process All 1 year and older stock has been grown from seedling cuttings for the best possible nebari. This also results in a very short stem length till the first actively growing buds making them idea for mame and shohin sized trees which can be grown in a much shorter space of time than the medium and larger size bonsai. Read more about my process here. While plants are in my care they are fed copious amounts of BonsaiBoost, fed weekly alternating with Seagro, Sea Secret and Kelpak to stimulate strong roots. Monthly fungicide treatments are applied, alternating between Copper Oxychloride, Chronos and Unizeb. Packaging Seedlings less than 1 years of age are sold loose, without growing medium in a plastic bag with damp sphagnum moss. Each 1 year and older plant is sold in its container with growing medium, which is watered thoroughly and then plastic wrapped prior to shipping. Further Reading The techniques for growing Red pine are almost identical to Black Pines. Read more about this species here.   Seedling images are depictions only of the average size and development of sale stock. Other photos are examples of Japanese red pine which I have grown from seed.

Cupressus sempervirens, commonly known as the Mediterranean Cypress or Pencil pine, is a species of cypress native to the eastern Mediterranean region, in northeast Libya, southeast Greece), southern Turkey, Cyprus, western Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree to 35 m in height, with a conic crown with level branches and variably pendulous branchlets. It is very long-lived, with some trees reported to be over 1,000 years old. The foliage grows in dense sprays, dark green in colour. The leaves are scale-like, 2-5 mm long, and produced on rounded shoots. The seed cones are ovoid or oblong, 25-40 mm long, with 10-14 scales, green at first, maturing to a golden brown. The male cones are 3-5 mm long. Mediterranean Cypress has been widely cultivated as an ornamental tree for millennia away from its native range, mainly throughout the central and western Mediterranean region, and in other areas with similar hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Pencil pines are hardy and will grow in all but the most severe climatic zones of Australia. They are also more tolerant of dry conditions than most other cypresses. It makes an excellent bonsai subject.   Japanese Black Pine can reach the height of 40 m, but rarely achieves this size outside its natural range. The needles are in fascicles of two with a white sheath at the base, 7-12 cm long; female cones are 4-7 cm in length, scaled, with small points on the tips of the scales, taking two years to mature. Male cones are 1-2 cm long borne in clumps of 12-20 on the tips of the spring growth. Bark is grey on young trees and small branches, changing to black and plated on larger branches and the trunk; becoming quite thick on older trunks. Because of its resistance to pollution and salt, it is a popular horticultural tree. In Japan it is widely used as a garden tree both trained as Niwaki and untrained growing as an overstory tree. The trunks and branches are trained from a young age to be elegant and interesting to view. It is one of the classic bonsai subjects.
