A group of hardened Nazi killers stalk their prey in Nazi-occupied France as a Jewish cinema owner plots to take down top-ranking SS officers during the official premiere of a high-profile German propaganda film. As far as Lieutenant Aldo Raine (aka Aldo 'the Apache', Brad Pitt) -- is concerned, the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi. Raine's mission is to strike fear into the heart of Adolf Hitler by brutally murdering as many goose-steppers as possible, or die trying. In order to accomplish that goal, Lt. Raine recruits a ruthless team of cold-blooded killers known as 'The Basterds', which includes baseball-bat-wielding Bostonian Sgt. Donnie Donowitz (aka 'The Bear Jew', Eli Roth) and steely psychopath Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger), among others. When the Basterds' secret rendezvous with turncoat German actress Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) goes awry, they learn that the Nazis will be staging the French premiere of 'The Nation's Pride', a rousing propaganda film based on the exploits of German hero Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl), at a modest theatre owned by Jewish cinephile Shoshanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent), posing as a Gentile after the brutal murder of her family by the ruthless Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). As the Basterds hatch an explosive plan to take out as many Nazis as possible at the premiere, they remain completely oblivious to the fact that Shoshanna, too, longs to bring the Third Reich to its knees, and that she's willing to sacrifice her beloved theatre in the process. Hard cover with jacket Published by Ian Allan in -  first edition 136 pages with some B&W photographs Red boards in very good conditi on with only minor bumping to spine ends. Internally too the book is in very good condition. Jacket has edgewear with some minor tears to the foldover edges. Light tanning to foldovers mainly at ends. Jacket is not price-clipped.    Most great escape stories so far told have been concerned with the exploits of officer prisoners of war in well-known camps like Colditz and Stalag Luft III. Less well-known but equally heroic were those of the large numbers of RAF NCO pilots, observers and air gunners who fell into German hands. Although early in the war they shared camps with their officers at places like Sagan and cooperated closely in developing effective escape organisations, the NCOs were soon segregated into their own compounds and left to their own resources in the ceaseless struggle to escape. A particularly notorious NCO camp was Heydekrug on the Baltic coast in what was East Prussia – the scene of one of the most remarkable POW exploits of the war. Warrant Officer George Grimson succeeded in establishing an escape route within Nazi Germany itself. One of the great classic escape books, Sergeant Escapers  tells the story of George Grimson and his fellow NCOs and their attempts, successful and unsuccessful, to outwit their captors, frequently in conditions that made Colditz look like a rest camp. The author, was himself a POW and an eye-witness to the unfolding drama of the Grimson escape saga.                   We do combine postage with other purchases so click here to see other books we are selling

When a German victory became impossible, the July 1944 conspirators plotted to bring a quick end to the war, hoping to negotiate a peace with the Western allies and possibly to join them in a war against Russia. Because the Allies would not negotiate with Hitler, the plotters planned to assassinate him and seize control of the government, using the Replacement Army to overcome the S.S. and the Nazi Party. This army would also maintain order within Germany, a task that would require more than half-a-million trained men. The conspirators convinced key Replacement Army officers to withhold men from the Field Army in the spring of 1944 in preparation for taking over the country. The result was a German army that lacked enough reserve divisions to counter the invasion of France and the Red Army attack in Russia. Although the plotters failed to kill Hitler, they hastened the war's end by weakening the German army. Dunn examines the 1944 July Plot from a manpower and logistics...

Originally published in 1960 in German as "Der Gelbe Stern", this landmark book was one of the first comprehensive photographic accounts of the Holocaust. During the 1950s, researchers in Washington, D.C. and London pored over more than 1,500 tons of photographs and documents seized after World War II. In 1960 Gerhard Schoenberner gathered some 200 photographs from the newly uncovered material, most of them taken by Nazis to chronicle their war against the Jews. Schoenberner named the book after the yellow badge that the Nazis forced the persecuted Jews to wear. With its comprehensive, authoritative presentation of visual and textual evidence, much of which had not yet not been seen before, The Yellow Star shocked the German population and introduced the world to many haunting images. The book endures as one of the most important documentary accounts of the Holocaust, reprinted in many German editions and published in eight languages. The photographs are accompanied by extracts from Nazi and German documents-laws, decrees, and other Reich memoranda, field reports from SS officers and concentration camp directors, newspaper editorials, and other writings. Schoenberner also provides detailed captions to the photographs. Organized chronologically, the book follows the growing scope and terror of the Holocaust, from the first anti-Jewish laws and Kristallnacht to ghetto uprisings and the Final Solution, culminating in the liberation of the death death camps. Each chapter has a narrative introduction by the author. While remaining true to the author's original concept, this new edition is a completely fresh presentation of the photographs and documents, with several enhancements. Schoenberner has added new photographs, replaced others, updated the captions and commentary when necessary, and updated and expanded the bibliography. Even if anti-Semitism were not on the rise in today's world, The Yellow Star would still be an essential book. In photograph after photograph, page after page, the Shoah unfolds as inexorable horror-captured with resonance that remains unequaled. First English edition published 1969 by Corgi. The book has been incorrectly bound (pic) but the cover and spine are good. Including a softcover copy of Michael Elkin's "Forged in Fury." Tracked postage is R50.00.
