John Gregory - The Boss - with Martin Swain - Andre Deutsch - 2000 - 276pp, indexed, full-colour photographs -Hard cover with dust cover in good, clean and tight condition. This is John Gregory's sensational story of his time at Aston Villa so far, having been dramatically appointed manager in February 1998. Open and honest, forthright and confident John Gregory talks about managing Stan Collymore and Paul Merson, his wheeling and dealing and his negotiations through the high-profile minefield that is the English Premiership. On 18 Feb 1998 John Gregory was preparing his Wycombe Wanderers side for a Second Division relegation battle in Bristol when the call from Villa came through. Within days, Gregory found himself preparing Aston Villa for a vital Premiership game with Liverpool that Villa won 2-1. His fixture was against Atletico Madird in the UEFA Cup quarter final. In his first season in charge, John Gregory led Villa from sixth from bottom to seventh from top with nine wins in eleven games. He transformed the season in three months even managing to sneak Villa into Europe. The Boss is his full and frank far-from-the-heart account of his Aston Villa years. He talks about losing Steve Staunton to Liverpool and his two controversial multi million pound signings - Paul Merson and Dion Dublin. He sells Dwight York and Stan Collymore hits the front page headlines. As 1998 turns into 1999 Villa are storming through with a record 12 matches unbeaten and are riding high at the top of the Premiership. John Gregory is the man of the moment: when Glen Hoddle is dismissed from the England job, Gregory, much to his surprise, is talked of as a successor. Fully updated for 2000/2001 season.

John Grisham: The Innocent Man In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the big leagues, Ron stumbled, his dream broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron's home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death--in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence that would shatter a man's already broken life...and let a true killer go free. Impeccably researched, grippingly told, filled with eleventh-hour drama, John Grisham's first work of non-fiction reads like a page-turning legal thriller. It is a book that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence--a book that no American can afford to mi See photos for book condition.  I have many more Novels available  I have many books on sale, please check my listings.  John Mackenzie South African Missionary and Statesman - W. Douglas - Negro University Press - 1969 - 564pp, Hard cover in very good, clean and tight condition. One of the most influential missionaries in South Africa. Brought up in a devout Church of Scotland family in northeastern Scotland, he volunteered for service with the LMS in 1855 and in 1858 was sent to South Africa. He served at Kuruman and at Shoshong among the Tswana peoples. Returning from furlough in 1871, he became tutor in the school for teachers and evangelists, first at Shoshong then at Kuruman. The Tswana peoples were threatened with the loss of their land to Afrikaners of the Transvaal or to speculators from the Cape. Mackenzie became a firm advocate of direct imperial rule of native territories to prevent settler takeover of the land so essential to the integrity of an African people. After a very long and complex struggle against the forces of both the Transvalers and of Cape politicians like Cecil Rhodes, he achieved success when in 1885 the British government declared the present Botswana a British Protectorate and preserved it from white settler occupation. In 1890 Mackenzie left the Tswana and spent his last years as pastor to the Cape Coloured people of Hankey, the last resting place of John Philip.

The long-serving Virginia congressman and architect of southern conservatism grabbed headlines with his prescient comments, public brawls, and clashes with every president from John Adams to Andrew Jackson. The first biography of Randolph in nearly a century, John Randolph of Roanoke provides a full account of the powerful Virginia planter's hard-charging life and his impact on the formation of conservative politics. The Randolph lineage loomed large in early America, and Randolph of Roanoke emerged as one of the most visible -- and certainly the most bombastic -- among his clan. A colorful orator with aristocratic manners, he entertained the House of Representatives (and newspaper readers across the country) with three-hour-long speeches on subjects of political import, drawing from classical references for his analogies, and famously pausing to gain "courage" from a tumbler at his side. Adept at satire and uncensored in his verbal attacks against colleagues, he invited challenges to duel from those he offended; in 1826, he and the then--secretary of state Henry Clay exchanged gunfire on the banks of the Potomac. A small-government Jeffersonian in political tastes, Randolph first entered Congress in 1799. As chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee he memorably turned on President Jefferson, once and for all, in 1805, believing his fellow Virginian to have compromised his republican values. As a result, Randolph led the "Old Republicans," a faction that sought to restrict the role of the federal government. In this rich biography, David Johnson draws upon an impressive array of primary sources -- Randolph's letters, speeches, and writings -- previously unavailable to scholars. John Randolph of Roanoke tells the story of a young nation and the unique philosophy of a southern lawmaker who defended America's agrarian tradition and reveled in his own controversy. "If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane." Miles Halter's whole life has been one big non-event, until he meets Alaska Young. Gorgeous, clever and undoubtedly screwed-up, Alaska draws Miles into her reckless world and irrevocably steals his heart. For Miles, nothing can ever be the same again. Looking for Alaska brilliantly captures the exquisite painful joy of living and loving. Poignant, funny, heartbreaking and compelling, this novel will stay with you forever. An Abundance Of Katherines When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun - but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself. Paper Towns Quentin Jacobsen has always loved Margo Roth Spiegelman, for Margo (and her adventures) are the stuff of legend at their high school. So when she one day climbs through his window and summons him on an all-night road trip of revenge he cannot help but follow. But the next day Margo doesn't come to school and a week later she is still missing. Q soon learns that there are clues in her disappearance... and they are for him. But as he gets deeper into the mystery - culminating in another awesome road trip across America - he becomes less sure of who and what he is looking for. Masterfully written by John Green, this is a thoughtful, insightful and hilarious coming-of-age story. The Fault In Our Stars Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.
