Some background to the print: Throughout history few have left so indelible an imprint on the international stage as Nelson Mandela. His courage, his compassion and his humanity are among the qualities that have led to this Nobel laureate being recognized as one of the world's greatest statesman. Never did a single individual more powerfully symbolize the hopes of a nation. South Africa became free in the way that it did because his hand reached out to all and thus his name became a beacon of hope to oppressed peoples throughout the world. With this limited edition, Nelson Mandela aimed to raise awareness of the devastating effects of HIV afflicting millions throughout the World – mostly Africa – amongst which a large number of children. Nelson Mandela’s left hand print is surrounded by imprints of the hands of children affected by HIV. The numbers of those already afflicted by this terrible disease are truly appalling and the forecasts are absolutely chilling. Nelson Mandela, once again reached out to answer the new cry from those suffering in his beloved country. Each print sold contributes to the Nelson Mandela’s Children Fund. As mentioned above the print is currently unframed and resides in Europe and can be shipped to SA. Open to negotiate a price closest to the asking value. Soft cover. 175 pages. Some reports Afrikaans, some English. Very good condition. Under 1kg. 'Ordinary South Africans report on a meeting with the ANC. In July a group of young white South Africans embarked on a journey to Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia, where they met with senior members of the ANC. The members of the tour group were from divergent political and professional backgrounds. Apart from a Nationalist there were supporters of the United Democratic Front, a physicist, a theologian, journalists, business people and politicians. In this book they report on their impressions. And it is exactly the diversity of opinions that makes the book so readable: from cynicism about the potential of liberated African countries to realise the expectations of their people to anger about the "deceit of apartheid".

How We Kept the Flag Flying: The Story of the Siege of Ladysmith   by Donald Macdonald 1999 - 289 pages Hard Cover in Good Condition.A Covos Books Anglo-Boer War Centenary Edition Excerpt from How We Kept the Flag Flying: The Story of the Siege of Ladysmith In this book I have attempted no specialist's description of the siege and battles of Ladysmith, but have given just the every-day impressions and sensations of an observer to whom war, with all its thrilling incidents and vivid colour, was a new and strange experience. It is not so much a history of the siege as a story of the siege written while the events were fresh in the mind. In a calm retrospective view much might be added, much omitted, but the complete military history of Ladysmith may be left to the historian and the expert. Without being consciously in error, I have sought to give the reader some idea of the moods and colour of the time. In the multiplicity of names there may be some confusion; thus I have spoken of the fight at Rietfontein as Tinta Inyoni, and of Wagon Hill as Caesar's Hill, since local opinion always differed as to which was correct. With a full appreciation of the patriotism and pride of race which has made Australasia a fighting unit in the British Empire, I dedicate this book to my fellow-countrymen who took part in the South African Campaign.
