Channel Islands South Africa has modernized the Flyer into a shorter and wider package. This new plan-shape allows for the same volume in a shorter rail line. We kept the forgiving 2-stage rocker and added spiral vee starting in front of the fins to allow for rail-to-rail quickness. The signature Merrick hip provides a pivot point for tight arcs at waves like Jeffery's Bay, Seal Point, Vic Bay and the plethora of points all the way up the East coast of South Africa. The New Flyer is now available with a unidirectional carbon strip. The carbon stiffens the middle of the board, increasing flex and bend in the tail and thereby a tighter turn radius. The carbon also reinforces the middle portion of the board against breakage with no detectable weight. An all around, high performance shortboard designed for down the line speed and easy rail-to-rail transitions, the Black & White is based on a favorite hand shape Britt Merrick made Dane Reynolds for Santa Barbara area point breaks. The Black & White has a fairly low entry rocker, a staged flat-ish section between the feet, and an accelerated kick out the tail. A single concave runs the length of the board, is deepest near the front fins and shallows into a hint of vee exiting the tail block. A flat deck design, the Black & White offers improved flex characteristics, a solid under-your-feet feel, and full rails. The board should be ridden about your same height to 2¿ longer than you are tall. Because of the flat deck ride the board 1/8¿ thinner than your normal shortboard to keep the same general volume. After tinkering with different concepts for most of 2010, Dane Reynolds launched the Neck Beard in early 2011, that became his favorite free-surf board. No longer working to hide volume from the judges like with the Dumpster Diver, Dane let it all hang out with a wider nose and chop tail. With light single concave and vee out the back, this board is faster down the line, has increased rail-to-rail transition, and is more stable when landing airs. Simply put the DFR is a new design from Dane Freaking Reynolds. Dane rode one of these while on a trip to South Africa at a few special spots on the KZN south coast and blew minds. An ultra modern short board, the plan shape allows for a short rail line while maintaining drive. The bottom is predominantly single concave and features an aggressive flip in exit rail rocker.
