The Cornerstone has always been an important wine within the Reyneke range, with the proceeds of the wine helping the farm workers and their families. This year, Lizanne the daughter of the cellar assistant, George, enrolled at University thanks to the Cornerstone Project. The grapes are farmed Biodynamically and the wine made without the use of yeasts, enzymes, added acidity or settling agents. The wine spends 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% new and 80% second and third-fill. The wine presents with red fruit nose of cassis, blackcurrant and mulberry Delicate perfumed aromas are backed with an underlying graphite line The lifted freshness of the palate is a factor of a firm natural acidity and the layered underlying fruit provides balance Bottle ageing potential of 7-10 years

A collaboration between South African estate Rust en Vrede and California’s Silver Oaks Cellars, Cirrus Syrah is the expression of the long-term view between two families that believe wine, above all, should bring people together. This wine was matured for 18 months in a combination of new French and American Oak barrels and is made in a typical Rhone style. Deep ruby red in colour Aroma has dark rich plum notes with a beautiful bouquet of floral jasmine, aided by an underlying mocha that creates a fantastic complex nose The rich plum fruit and mocha from the nose are prominent on the palate. There are subtle floral notes that are well-integrated with the dark fruit flavours and subtle oak spice This wine shows fantastic palate length and ends with an elegant, well-structured and full finish

Opstal Estate is situated at the foot of the Slanghoek mountains in the heart of the breathtakingly beautiful Slanghoek Valley on the Breedekloof Wine Route. The valley forms part of the Breede River Valley with Worcester as the closest, large town. Carl Everson was the visionary 4th generation farmer at Opstal Estate. This wine is a tribute to his perseverance and hard work, earthed in our family’s land, during tough times in the industry post-war. The 33 year old vines, old French barrels, natural fermentation and minimalistic cellar intervention proclaims our Slanghoek terroir through this wine. That was the aim – to put Chenin Blanc from the Slanghoek valley into a bottle without really tampering with this pure and precious juice. The result – complex notes of white peach, squashed pineapple and pear are found on the nose The palate is well rounded by the extended time in the barrel on lees, but at the same time appears fresh and elegant through a balanced acidity

Cape Rock Wines aim to make only the best full-bodied style of Shiraz that they can with this blend in exceptional vintages. Mourvèdre is added for body and spice, and Viognier for freshness and to enhance the aromatic profile with it’s subtle floral and dried apricot aromas. The farm co-ferment the three varieties to make a seamless wine and always use second or third fill bigger French oak barrels so that there is very little oak influence on the resulting wine. Full bodied with herbaceous 'veld', spice, pepper, bright red summer fruit and plum flavours Made to be enjoyed at release, but should only improve with age for up to 8 years after release Ideal to be enjoyed on its own in winter or slightly chilled on summer evenings Pairs well with strong cheese, lamb or game dishes

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 6 - 13 working days Lanterne rouge: French / noun 1. The red lantern that hangs on the rear of a train 2. The competitor who finishes last in the Tour de France. If you complete a bike race of over kilometres, overcoming mountain ranges and merciless weather conditions while enduring physical and psychological agony, in the slowest time, should you be branded the loser? What if your loss helped a teammate win? What if others lacked the determination to finish? What if you were trying to come last? Froome, Wiggins, Merckx - we know the winners of the Tour de France, but Lanterne Rouge tells the forgotten, often inspirational and occasionally absurd stories of the last-placed rider. We learn of stage winners and former yellow jerseys who tasted life at the other end of the bunch; the breakaway leader who stopped for a bottle of wine and then took a wrong turn; the doper whose drug cocktail accidently slowed him down and the rider who was recognised as the most combative despite finishing at the back. Lanterne Rouge flips the Tour de France on its head and examines what these stories tell us about ourselves, the 99 per cent who don't win the trophy, and forces us to re-examine the meaning of success, failure and the very nature of sport. Features Summary If you complete a bike race of over kilometres, overcoming mountain ranges and merciless weather conditions while enduring physical and psychological agony... If classic elegance is what you are looking for in a wine, the De Grendel Merlot is a worthy contender. A perfect match for a Sunday roast lamb, it's ageing potential will allow you to enjoy it for the next 5 years. First revealing delicate berries – red, black and blue – followed by the alluring aroma of aniseed, cedar and liquorice which are all carried through on the palate Rather than dominate, French oak adds support, while the structure comes from the tannins, as do the light mocha flavours The texture is smooth and well-rounded, lingering a while to remind you of its balance and elegance Recommended with traditional Sunday roast lamb and vegetables or roast chicken with butternut. A perfect match for a hearty shank, chickpea and lentil soup served with fennel-studded flat bread Aging potential: 5 years
