New to this version are training levels for up-and-coming Jedi's and a cool mano-a-mano fighting mode (think Street Fighter with lightsabers) that's good for a few laughs. Without the Star Wars name, this game could have been considered rather ordinary. But Jedi Power Battles delivers the fun for all who ever wanted a chance to go toe-to-toe with Darth Maul and all of his friends from the Dark Side. The game's premise is such that all of Bond's greatest bad guys are still alive and caught up in a sort of underworld civil war, in which your character seeks to be the real beneficiary. Ignoring such nonsense though, and looking purely at the game, the AI seems quite good and the replacement of Everything or Nothing's "Bond Moments" with scripted "Death Trap" sequences is fairly amusing. Unfortunately though the developers seem to have forgotten that the original game was as much lauded (at least a year before Thief or Metal Gear Solid) for its stealth gameplay as much for its shooting and this element seems total absent from Rogue Agent. The multiplayer is also unconvincing with no radar and rather sprawling level design. It might turn out all right when it's finished but at the end of the day this is no GoldenEye. -- David Jenkins

Otherwise, the gameplay and story will be very familiar to owners of the previous versions: the evil General Viggo, a very large and pompous cat, has kidnapped the Fur Fighters' various puppies, kittens, baby dragons etc and you must help the worried parents retrieve their offspring. You do this by exploring various vaguely familiar locations (New Quack City) and tangling with Viggo's various henchmen and bosses. Each of the characters has unique abilities (burrowing and climbing walls for example) and some areas can only be reached utilising these talents, which means that there is much swapping of character in each level. You're equipped with a variety of weaponry, which can be upgraded--a personal favourite is the Multiple Meerkat add-on. Content-wise there's nothing to upset younger gamers (though they may be bewildered by the concept of the family pet armed with a shotgun) but the sheer scale of the levels means that Fur Fighters will really only be appreciated by more experienced gamers. With its dreadfully cheesy in-jokes and varied gameplay, this is definitely for anyone who has enjoyed a Rare tile on the N64. There's even a multiplayer "Fluffmatch" option.
