Celebrate books, friendship, and chocolate milk shakes with Duncan the Dragon in this sweet, funny story perfect for fans of Dog Loves Books and Dragons Love Tacos. Duncan the Dragon loves to read. When he reads a story, his imagination catches fire! Unfortunately... so does his book. Fire breath is great for roasting marshmallows, but its not so great for reading. Duncan just wants to get to those two wonderful words, like the last sip of a chocolate milk shake: The End. Will he ever find out how the story ends? This bright, warm tale champions determination, friendship, and a love for books. And milk shakes! Praise for Duncan the Story Dragon: An Indie Next selection Winner of the Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy Bell Picture Book Award Winner of the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Book Award An Indiana Young Hoosier Book Award Selection A Missouri State Teachers Association Reading List Selection A Nebraska Golden Sower Award nominee Nominated for the Utah Beehive Picture Book Award "The vivid colors, expressive faces, and comic details make this one likely to be a storytime hit. Like the last sip of a chocolate milkshake, it's very satisfying."--Kirkus Reviews From School Library Journal K-Gr 2Duncan the dragon loves reading. At least, he thinks he does. He can never quite get to the end of the book because his imagination sets them on fireliterally. Filled with longing to reach "The End," Duncan asks numerous woodland critters to read to him, but no one will take up his offer. Finally, a mouse who loves stories reads to Duncan and he experiences a satisfying ending, which, as the book points out, is "only the beginning." The cartoonlike illustrations add humor (Duncan in an ice bath with melted soaps to cool his imagination flame) and action (sailing on the high seas, surrounded by aliens, etc.). VERDICT An additional purchase for libraries in need of more picture books about the joy of reading.Brittany Staszak, St. Charles Public Library, IL --This text refers to the Hardcover edition. In  good condition, Published (2010) Two hundred miles south of the Devon coastline, Palestinian freedom fighter Abed Abu Omar and twenty men prepare for their most daring mission yet - the hijack of a supertanker, a five-storey superstructure laden with oil. Meanwhile, in an Elizabethan country house, SBS operative Stratton has been seconded to bodyguard work and is bored by the lack of challenge. Not for long. With the helter-skelter pace that defined Duncan Falconer's brilliant debut THE HOSTAGE, Stratton has been whisked away by helicopter to assist in a daring rescue. THE HIJACK ranges from London to the Gaza Strip, from Riga in Latvia to Jerusalem. With a rich cast of characters from Russian secret service operatives to Al Qaeda terrorists and the Israeli military, the authentic detail and heartstopping narrative will propel Duncan Falconer to the highest class of adventure writers.

In  good condition Published (2010) After a surveillance mission in Sevastopol goes badly wrong, Stratton finds himself doing penance at MI16, the government's clandestine organisation that creates weapons equipment for special forces and the secret service. But Sevastopol has started something. In the North Sea a team of hijackers take over the giant Morpheus oil platform. They are demanding two billion dollars. Inside twenty-four hours. Or the bodies will start falling. With the SBS overstretched and its surveillance team locked down, there is only one option: Stratton and a team of unproven operatives from MI16. Stratton knows he has to redeem himself and he also has his own agenda. One of the men on the rig is an old friend. And Stratton intends to save him. But one of Stratton's team is not what they appear to be. A traitor. With a deadly agenda of their own. And Morpheus is just the beginning. This is the incendiary sixth thriller in the Stratton series by the UK's leading ex-SF professional.

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days Extraordinarily wealthy and influential, Stephen Duncan (1787-1867) was a landowner, slaveholder, and financier with a remarkable array of social, economic, and political contacts in pre-Civil War America. In this, the first biography of Duncan, Martha Jane Brazy offers a compelling new portrait of antebellum life through exploration of Duncan's multifaceted personal networks in both the South and the North. Duncan grew up in an elite Pennsylvania family with strong business ties in Philadelphia. There was little indication, though, that he would become a cosmopolitan entrepreneur who would own over fifteen plantations in Mississippi and Louisiana, collectively owning more than two thousand slaves. With style and substance, Martha Jane Brazy describes both the development of Duncan's businesses and the lives of the slaves on whose labor his empire was constructed. According to Brazy, Duncan was a hybrid, not fully a southerner or a northerner. He was also, Brazy shows, a paradox. Although he put down deep roots in Natchez, his sphere of influence was national in scope. Although his wealth was greatly dependent on the slaves he owned, he predicted a clash over the issue of slave ownership nearly three decades before the onset of the Civil War. Perhaps more than any other planter studied, Duncan contradicts historians' definition of the southern slaveholding aristocracy. By connecting and contrasting the networks of this elite planter and those he enslaved, Brazy provides new insights into the slaveocracy of antebellum America.  Empires of Oil: Corporate Oil in Barbarian Worlds by Duncan Clarke (Hardcover)   Revealing the huge challenges that the world's oil empires will face in the 21st century, this razor-sharp analysis of contemporary geopolitics—combined with a deep knowledge of global history—shows exactly why these empires are declining. It explains where the new empires of oil will be around the world, which of the hidden threats and unknown enemies are (and will be) the most serious, and where companies and governments have gone wrong and how they can improve their global strategies. The decline of the American oil empire, the strategy at the Kremlin, the state oil companies in China, and the mini-empires in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America are all explored, and help to explain how the world will change because of global battles over the commodity that underpins our daily lives.
