DAVID ANDERSON "ON SAFARI" THE SOURCE FOR SAFARIS IN EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA David Anderson is an expert on safari design and planning with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his knowledge of safari destinations. He  became captivated by Africa after a five-week trip to Kenya in 1978 and two years later, planned and organized his first safari for a small group of friends. That success led him to organize other safaris, which eventually resulted in the creation of David Anderson Safari. Over the years, he has designed hundreds of safaris and personally escorted over fifty. Concerned with declining tourism to Africa and the inevitable impact that this was having on endangered wildlife, Anderson organized the 'Focus on Africa' Project in 1993. Over a sixteen-week period, one hundred thirty-six mostly amateur photographers traveled throughout East and Southern Africa on twenty-five safaris, which he designed. In all, more than 250,000 photo frames were exposed.  The award winning book,  On Safari: The Source for Safaris in East and Southern Africa  was inspired because David saw the need for an attractive coffee-table book that provided more than just wonderful pictures and  should be a resource book with solid information for the safari traveler. Anderson lives in Santa Barbara, California, but travels frequently to Africa in search of knowledge, adventure, and of course, to practice the art and science of photography. David Livingstone: The Unexplored Story by Stephen Tomkins (2013) David Livingstone has gone down in history as a fearless explorer and missionary, hacking his way through the jungles of Africa to bring light to the people and also to free them from slavery. But who was he, and what was he actually like? He was an extraordinary character according to biographer Stephen Tomkins unbelievably bad at personal relationships, at least with white people, with infinite self-belief, courage and restlessness. He was a flawed but indomitable idealist.  Fascinating new evidence about Livingstones life, and his struggles have come to light in the letters and journals he left behind, now accessible to us for the first time through spectral imaging. These form a large part of the source material for this excellent biography, which provides an honest and balanced account of the real man behind the Victorian icon. 192 p. 0.76 cm

Book in good condition but dustcover has creases and a bit worn around spine.  By Ned Middleton TOP 500 REVIEWER on May 2, 2007 If had to recommend two books to anyone seeking an excellent read which will make them laugh, I would look no further than "The Moon's a Balloon" and "Bring on the Empty Horses!" These are two of the funniest and most satisfying books I have ever read. There were several different aspects to David Niven's life. Having arrived in Hollywood, he was required to learn his trade in "B" movies before being allowed to enter the big time from where he eventually won an Oscar. Unlike some of the greats of Hollywood, he also put his entire acting career on hold whilst he served as a British officer in a fighting unit throughout WW2. "The Moon's a Balloon" recounts the first half of his life's story in which we meet some of the rich and famous stars of that Hollywood of yester-year and learn a little about each of these people and their various relationships. In "Bring on the Empty Horses" Niven confirms his credentials as an ingenious writer as he pours his own brand of humour onto each and every encounter he describes in this sequel. Not once does he stoop to the level of cheap gossip, not once does attack the person he is describing. Instead, we have a first hand account of that golden age of Hollywood written by a master wordsmith who has also mastered the art of humour. Only a writer who had also been a central part of that glorious cast of characters and real-life people could possibly have produced this work. I promise, you will not want either book to end - they really are so enjoyable. There is something about the way in which David Niven writes about other people you just know they would approve of what he has said. As an actor, David Niven was the good guy, the dashing hero, the sort of character to whom we would all wish to aspire. As an author, he writes about his fellow personalities from the Hollywood of yester-year with whom he worked and came into contact without exposing their shortcomings. Instead, he simply makes us laugh and, as I say, those of whom he writes would, therefore, approve. If you are a fan of the olden days, the golden days of Hollywood, you will enjoy these two books. If you simply want a damned good read, you will enjoy them even more. Truth is, I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying either product. What more can I say except I know you will not be disappointed.

Due to Book size Postage and Packaging is R40  "A powerful, deeply affecting career summation, and another great book from an indisputable master practitioner of the art" David Goldblatt: Photographs Hasselblad Award 2006 Published by Hatje Cantz. Introduction by Gunilla Knape. Text by Michael Godby., 2007 Book Description: Sweden / Germany: Hasselblad / Hatje Cantz, 2007 Hardcover. First edition, 2006. 84 pages with 4 gatefolds; 45 full-page, color photographic plates; 12 x 11 inches. Text in English. When David Goldblatt received the world-renowned Hasselblad Award in 2006, he had been making photographs of the South African landscape and culture for more than 50 years. Born in 1930 in a gold-mining town near Johannesburg, his parents were Jewish refugees from Lithuania, and they raised him with an emphasis on tolerance and antiracism. In 1975, at the height of apartheid, Goldblatt explored white nationalist culture in Some Afrikaners Photographed, and in the 80s he observed workers on the Kwandebele-Pretoria bus, many of whom traveled eight hours every day to work and back. His late-90s solo show at New York's Museum of Modern Art focused on architectural work, and showed off Goldblatt's uncanny ability to discover a society through its buildings and landscapes. His photographs of architectural structures revealed the ways that ideology had defined his home country's landscape. Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography In 2006 David Goldblatt was presented with this prestigious award in Sweden, the 26th recipient since its inception in 1980. From the Hasselblad press release: David Goldblats work is a life long observation of the social and political developments within South African society. He has been concerned to explore the relationship between individual subjects and the structures within which they live. His interest in the violent history of his country, and his awareness of the symbolic significance of architecture, form an extraordinary statement both personal and socio-political. Photography, in the words of David Goldblatt, reveals something of the subtlety and ambiguity of our shifting and frequently contradictory perceptions of reality. The reason why the jury has chosen Golblatt for the Hasselblad award is because Goldblatts photographs are acute in historical and political perception. They provide a sense of the texture of daily life, and an important piece of missing information regarding life under apartheid in South Africa.   Book condition as new, clean, no sign of wear, pristine collectable   Due to Book size Postage and Packaging is R40

When she turned the page and her gaze flickered over the date on top it was as though the lightning outside had somehow grounded right into her. A billion volts of pain, a shriek of anguish you could actually see, and feel, as it pierced her. Camp David, USA. A birthday party turns into a nightmare when a child is snatched after the celebrations. The First Lady enlists the services of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell to bring the child home safely. But she and King share a past. Years ago he saved her then senator husband from political disaster. And this may not be all that passed between them. With Michelle still battling her own demons, the two are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them - and the line between friend and foe impossible to define...or defend.
