It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days When Flowkwee goes to planet Earth on a mission, he has to stay disguised--as a small Earthling called Nigel, with only one head and four appendages But that's not all. His personal mission is to go to a school every day to collect Earthlings to "improve." Nigel knows he has to act dumb around the Earthlings, so in math class he pretends he only knows his times table up to two million and six times nine, and in literacy class he pretends to read like a newborn Faathing baby. Earthling life is totally weird to Nigel--the odd removable skins Earthlings wear called "clothes" and the funny paint on his mom's face called "makeup"--but in some ways Earth is even better than planet Faa. Earth is full of cool sounds made up of all different pitches and noises called "music," and Earthlings get gifts every year on their birthdays, just for being alive But while Nigel starts to embrace his Earthling self, in the background lurks a coming invasion that his dad keeps talking about. The first time in paperback, "Letters from an Alien Schoolboy" is sure to delight even the most reluctant readers as Earthling kids giggle their way through Nigel's gaffes and escapades. This is a fantastic gift for girls and boys ages eight to twelve Features Summary When Flowkwee goes to planet Earth on a mission, he has to stay disguised--as a small Earthling called Nigel, with only one head and four appendages But that's not all... This volume is the third in The Structure of Destruction, Douglas Messerli's exploration of evil in 20th century. However, according to Messerli's introduction, "Letters from Hanusse" was actually written by the enigmatic Joshua Haigh, who sent the manuscript to Messerli without a return address and with the cryptic comment that "I will no longer be living by the time you hold this package in your hands". Postage R55.00. Extra items free. Paperback, excellent condition. Drawn by some sympathetic note in one of his poems, young people often wrote to Rilke with their problems and hopes. From 1903 to 1908 Rilke wrote a series of remarkable responses to a young would-be poet, on poetry and on surviving as a sensitive observer in a harsh world. An accompanying chronicle of Rilke's life shows what he was experiencing in his own relationship to life and work when he wrote these letters.

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 12 working days Dylan Thomas's letters bring the fascinating and tempestuous poet and his times to life in a way that no biography can.The letters begin in the poet's schooldays and end just before his death in New York at the age of 39. In between, he loved, wrote, drank, begged and borrowed his way through a flamboyant life. He was an enthusiastic critic of other writers' work and the letters are full of his thoughts on the work of his contemporaries, from T.S. Eliot and W.H. Auden to Stephen Spender and Cecil Day-Lewis.A lifetime of letters tell a remarkable story, each taking the reader a little further along the path of the poet's self-destruction, but written with such verve and lyricism that somehow the reader's sympathies never quite abandon him. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days In 1925, the 22-year-old Kenneth Clark (1903-1983) and the legendary art critic and historian Bernard Berenson (1865-1959) met in Italy. From that moment, they began a correspondence that lasted until Berenson's death at age 94. This book makes available, for the first time, the complete correspondence between two of the most influential figures in the 20th-century art world, and gives a new and unique insight into their lives and motivations. The letters are arranged into ten chronological sections, each accompanied by biographical details and providing the context for the events and personalities referred to. They were both talented letter writers: informative, spontaneous, humorous, gossipy, and in their frequent letters they exchanged news and views about art and politics, friends and family life, collectors, connoisseurship, discoveries, books read and written, and travel. Berenson advised Clark on his blossoming career, warning against the museum and commercial art worlds while encouraging his promise as a writer and interpreter of the arts. Above all, these letters trace the development of a deep and intimate friendship. About the product 8vo; original blue cloth, lettered in gilt on spine, with gilt publisher's monogram to upper cover; no dustwrapper; pp. xiii + (i) + 248, incl. index; plates; some illustrations in text. Very good condition."The arrival at the Cape of Good Hope, early in 1834, of Sir John Herschel and Thomas Maclear initiated for them a period of intense scientific endeavour. Herschel was graced by a name which, from the astronomical discoveries of his father, Sir William Herschel, was already a household word. The younger Herschel was arguably the most famous scientist ever to spend a significant portion of his life in the beneficial clime of the Cape. Much has been written about Herschel's scientific work at the Cape. The picture is far from complete, however.. This gives some justification for the publication of what is in fact the majority of the letters written by Herschel during his residence at the Cape. For Maclear the situation is quite the reverse. Completely unknown on his arrival at the Cape, he had steadily to build up fame on the foundations of industry and public service. By the time of his death in 1879 his repute was such that his passing moved even the Cape Parliament to a salutation.. Yet the nature of the man is hardly known in the country of his adoption, and his contributions are largely forgotten in his chosen profession. Although a full-scale biography is required to do justice to Maclear, the diaries and letters reproduced here will go some way towards establishing his character." Maclear&Herschel. Very good condition."Porter's Touwfontein letters are published firstly as an insider's account of an important development in the history of South Africa, for the meeting convened by the Governor in 1845 was the beginning of a chain of events which led to the appointment of a British Resident in the Transorange in the same year, the proclamation of British sovereignty over the area in 1848 and the establishment of the Orange Free State in 1854. In addition, however, the letters also provide an entertaining and informative description of conditions in the interior of South Africa in the 1840s."
