Mandela 1 Kilogram Silver Currently trading at R27,000.00. Mintage Worldwide: 5,000 The Mandela Kilogram medallion is extremely unique and one of its kind. The 1 Kilogram Silver Mandela, which is the 5th coin in the world, bears the signature of Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was incarcerated on Robben Island for 18 years and for that reason the Mint of Norway have minted a 1 kilogram silver medallion in order to commemorate the sacrifice which Nelson Mandela made for democracy in South Africa. This is the first time that Nelson Mandela has been immortalised on a 1 kilogram silver medallion. The obverse (front) of this exquisite collectable portrays the bust of Nelson Mandela which has been gold plated, and which has never been done before. The words Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela are inscribed around the outside and the now famous phrase “A Long Walk To Freedom” is inscribed next to Nelson Mandela’s bust. The obverse (back) of this highly sought after medallion portrays an image of Robben Island which is also gold plated, as well as the words Robben Island. The years that Nelson Mandela spent incarcerated on Robben Island are inscribed at the bottom. The signature of Nelson Mandela appears between the 1964 and 1982.
