All buckles and press studs are perfect and functional. Such items, due to age & general wear, are not often found in a comparable state of preservation. Travels in Ovamboland, Damaraland and to Lake 'Ngami - Hardcover in good condition - Internally a clean and tight copy. Postage & packaging R Gerald McKiernan was an American trader, operating in South West Africa in the last decade before German colonial rule. The manuscript consists of a narrative of 5 years' travel in Africa, from to , and a diary which he kept from to . The author travelled widely, probably reaching well into Angola.

My memoirs of the British South African Police 1966 - 1981 ... and a Colonial Upbringing in Northern Rhodesia Throughout the authors life in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) his father was a member of the Northern Rhodesia Police and the author sets about recording various incidents in the life of a youngster growing up on the numerous towns and police stations at which his father served.  The family moved to Southern Rhodesia in 1964. Finalizing his secondary schooling at Chaplin School, Gwelo, Rhodesia, in 1965, the author joined the British South Africa Police (BSAP) in March 1966 and elected to go into the district branch of the Force. The author traces his career from a young patrol officer, through the various ranks and district police stations on which he served, to his retirement in August 1981 as a superintendent, in what was then Zimbabwe.  He highlights the typical lifestyle associated with a district copper, including anecdotes from the Bush War that was raging. Apart from the lighter side of the book hitting an elephant at Makuti at 1 a.m. in a Mini Moke; realizing five minutes before presenting his men on parade to the Officer Commanding, at an annual inspection, that he had left his trousers at home; attending an internal disciplinary hearing as the accused for being drunk off duty where the presiding officer commented that the authors main defence witness appeared more drunk than the author and dismissed the casethere are some more serious chapters involving terrorist incidents, some of which are captured on an original station Incident Log which the author has included in the book.   Paperback / 256 pages 80 b/w photos, 2 maps

In this book James Ambrose Brown does more than write a campaign history: he draws the reader into the emotional and national frenzy of colonial politics in German East Africa during the 1916 - 1918 campaign and the annexations of African territories that preceded it. This sets the stage for the narrative that chronicles the major role that South Africa played in this war in tropical Africa. It was a campaign in Tanganyika remarkable for the suffering, hardships and stubborn courage on both sides. This story of human endurance is presented with the freshness of personally recorded experiences of officers and men who fought in what is now called Tanzania, and tells for the first time the important function that South African volunteers played under the command of General Jan Smuts.

Sterling Silver Diameter: 49mm Weight: 54.8g The Exhibition in PE was of South African arts, raw materials and products, was a preliminary to the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London in 1886, to which the best exhibits were to be sent. It was opened by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Sir Hercules Robinson, on 10th December 1885, and closed in January 1886.

Silver (so marked on edge). Diameter 51.0 mm. Mass 59.3 gm. Comes inside the original fitted case of issue. Note: This medal is solid silver and not silver plated bronze. The silver plated medals are more common. The plating is thick and the medals are often mistaken for solid silver.
