Rare Irish George I Half Louis d'Or Brass Coin Weight, 1718 An interesting and scarce numismatic find!    Coin weights are weights which were designed to be used to check the weight of a gold or silver coin during a transaction. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries there was an extensive series of locally produced weights available to Irish merchants. These weights were designed to be used to check the weight of many of the more common gold coins and a few silver coins which were in use in Ireland.    Please judge grade from pictures:   Pictured next to a 20c coin for size comparison:   Coin weights are weights which were designed to be used to check the weight of a gold or silver coin during a transaction. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries there was an extensive series of locally produced weights available to Irish merchants. These weights were designed to be used to check the weight of many of the more common gold coins and a few silver coins which were in use in Ireland. In association with the weight and the scales the merchant would refer to a table of values in Irish pounds shillings and pence of each coin and an accompanying note indicating how much was to be decremented from the value of the coin for each grain it was below the minimum weight. Because there was a wide variety of foreign coin in circulation and many of which were produced to a different fineness (or carat in modern terms) a merchant who did not understand how to use weights and determine the local value correctly could be at a significant disadvantage. The authority to produce weights was granted to a series of local goldsmiths. Typically every few years, and often at the turn of a reign the standards were adjusted. Irish coin weights often carry a date which is generally the date of the standard or license they are derived from rather than their year of manufacture. So for example a weight dated 1714 could have been produced anytime between 1714 and 1723 when a new standard set of values was devised. Irish coin weights of the 17th and 18th centuries are generally made of brass. The weights which were most commonly produced were those designed for weighing the most common coins in circulation (typically English Guineas and Half Guineas) whilst weights for more obscure coins were produced in smaller quantities and are consequently scarcer. This having been said I have seldom seen the modern value of a coin weight take the scarcity of the particular denomination into account, and there is very little published to support the casual collector. Though there is a book from Galata which gives a great deal of detailed information about the series. The normal range of dates encountered in Irish coin Weights is from 1680 through 1760. Examples from before 1680 are generally scarce and examples from after 1760 are usually undated though they often carry the makers monogram and therefore can be dated. The practice of having a wide range of weights for foreign coins died out in the early nineteenth century as the circulation of foreign coin was reduced and eventually eliminated by about 1830.        Please have a look at all my Items here!!

China - Huo Quan Coin Xin Dynasty Five Shu Coins were not minted with dates, but this form was used between 14 AD to 23 AD. The Huo Quan(Huo Sh'uan) were issued after Wang Mang's fith and final currency reform in 14 AD. The coins were valued at 1 Wu shu (5 shu) and produced to be of a five shu metal weight. The Xin Dynasty was a Chinese dynasty which lasted from AD 9 to 23. It interrupted the Han Dynasty, dividing it in the periods of the Western Han and the Eastern Han. The sole emperor of the Xin Dynasty, Wang Mang. Wang Mang(c. 45 BC – 6 October 23 AD), was a wealthy and influential Han Dynasty official who seized the throne from the Liu family and founded the Xin Dynasty (Pronounced Hsin - Literally translating as "New Dynasty"). Though he is viewed by many historians as a gifted scholar and philodopher, he proved an abismal ruler. The Xing Dynasty came to an end in 23 AD during a general uprising. In October of AD 23, the capital Chang'an was attacked and the imperial palace ransacked. Wang Mang died in the battle. This coin is an example of the seldomly seen star shaped center hole, instead of the usual square hole. INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS WELCOME

Please take a look at the following photos which I feel represent as much as possible an accurate guide for you to make your assessment regarding grade and appearance of the coin or coins. Ex-Mount Spectacular 1892 ZAR 5 Shillings Double-Shaft with a low mintage of only 4327. On offer here is a truly eye-catching example with bronze and orangey-brown surfaces sprinkled with bluish-green hues and a very high level of detail, this coin is comfortably AU55 details. I say details because it is almost certainly EX-MOUNT with signs of light repair to the rim mainly at 12o'clock(please take a look at the photo below). However this coin does not have the feel or look of an ex-mount coin and without inspecting the rim carefully you would never know it. I could not resist showing the amazing chameleon-like eye-appeal this coin exhibits so the photos below are with the coin angled slightly to the lighting so as to capture the vivid colours and detail, absolutely no enhancements so this is how you will see it under similar lighting.   The photos below are of the same coin shot in  a more conventional straight-on manner, please note the little scratch behind Krugers head which is emphasised in this shot but in the hand is not quite as distracting and noticeable.   I shall be listing a few new coins every single day all starting at just R1 with absolutely no reserve and all ending on consecutive Sundays. Please do keep an eye out for these many new listings that should comprise an interesting selection of coins of all grades and denominations, and by all means if you have any requests of specific coins you are looking for let me know, if I have it ill list it at R1!!

Face Value: 10 Yuan Purity: 99.9 %; 30 grams Dimensions: 40 mm X 2.98 mm The Chinese Silver Panda is a series of silver bullion coins issued by the People’s Republic of China. The design of the panda is changed every year, and these are minted in different sizes and denominations, ranging from 0.5 troy oz. to 1 kilogram. Last year, the coin no longer contained troy ounce weight markings, which were thought to be too Western. This year, they have returned the marking in grams, and the coin is now 30 grams, and not 31.103 or 1 troy ounce. There is also a Gold Panda series issued featuring the same designs as the silver Panda coins. The first silver Panda coins—issued in 1983, 1984 and 1985—were Proof quality, with a precious metal content of 27 gm. of.900 fine silver, and a diameter of 38.6 mm. Mintages were only 10,000 for each year. No silver Pandas were issued in 1986. The 1987 silver Panda coins were minted in Proof quality from 1 troy oz. of sterling (.925 fine) silver, with a diameter of 40 mm. There are several mints that produced silver Panda coins over the years, including but not limited to: Shenzhen, Shanghai and Shenyang. Unlike coins made by US mints that carry mintmarks to distinguish their origin, Chinese mints generally do not carry mintmarks. In certain years there are minor variations in the coin design—such as the size of the date, temple, etc.–that allow the originating mint to be determined. An example is 1996 where different mints produced coins with minor variations in the font size of the date on the obverse side of the coins. Obverse: Depiction of the Temple of Heaven in the center with Chinese characters on top saying “ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ” meaning People’s Republic of China and the bottom the year of issue. If the issue is a commemorative issue, the theme will be marked here also. Reverse: Different portraits of panda that changes every year (except for 2001 and 2002, which share the same design). Shipping Rates: Johannesburg and Pretoria: R65.00 (Including Insurance). Order of 15 or more coins: Free Shipping and Insurance. Other parts of South Africa: R99.00 (Including Insurance). Beautiful, colourful and highly detailed enamelled 1951 Southern Rhodesia Half Crown The coin itself is also an extremely high grade example given the level of detail still visible, the enamelling and coin is protected by  what appears to be a plastic/perspex protective layer.
