From Great Britain, a Scarce Silver Medal to Commemorate the Visit by Joseph Chamberlain, the British Colonial Secretary, to South Africa in 1903. The purpose of the visit was to foster unity after the Boer War. By Joseph Fray. References: Hern 562; Eimer 1876; BHM 3888; Fearon 254.2.   Further information at South African Medals. Silver (so marked on edge). Diameter 51.0 mm. Mass 59.3 gm. Comes inside the original fitted case of issue. Note: This medal is solid silver and not silver plated bronze. The silver plated medals are more common. The plating is thick and the medals are often mistaken for solid silver.
