Boer War QSA medal with 3 bars issued to 26541 Tpr. J.J Lagorie of South African Light Horse Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901 with documents  as per photo The SA 01 clasp was issued on 14.5.09 to his father (noted on roll 100/275 of March 9, 1903) & is added to the CC, OFS bars. The naming has rub marks 26541 Farrier Jas Jos Lagorie SALH died in hospital at Kroonstad on 24 December 1901. The casualty roll has his father's number as this was lightly entered under his correct service number on August 17, 1904 roll    

 Boer War: Buitengewone Staats-Courant Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek  (Dated 27 November 1899). This item is an ORIGINAL,  period piece and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  A physical reminder of the most prominent conflict that shaped South Africa's history. This Buitengewone Staats-Courant was published on Monday, the 27th of November 1899 -  a month after the outbreak of hostilities at Colenso. The body of text is printed in Dutch and proclaims that all free citizens (burghers) of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek,  who qualify for and who have been called up for military service / commando duties - are no longer able to cancel their life insurance policies.  This was legislated to prevent the premature withdrawal of funds associated with policies due to the possibility of early death associated with conflict.   The text of the document is clear and is not obscured. Please note that the item is nearly 120 years old - so the paper will show signs of age and some discolouration.   An ideal historical piece, documenting the early days of the Anglo-Boer War, from the perspective of those living in the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek. A Boer War Queen's South Africa (QSA) medal with clasps for CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, RELIEF OF LADYSMITH, LAING'S NEK & BELFAST. The QSA is named to: 416 ARMR-SERJT: W. ADLARD. S.A. LT HORSE. (South African Light Horse) The same Regiment in which Winston Churchill served after his escape during the Boer War. Adlard Died of Wounds at Mooirivier in Natal on 31 January 1900.(see scans from www.AngloBoerWar.com) Adlard's initials are incorrect on his QSA.(Named as "W"). Colenso 1899: The Boer War in Natal by Ian Knight 1995 - 96  pages Soft Cover with in Good Condition.Stain on top left back cover as per photographs In 1899 Great Britain was at the height of its Imperial power. The Queen Empress had been on the throne for more than 50 glittering years, and her domain touched upon every continent. Yet, even at this pinnacle of Imperial pomp and majesty, the British army, guardian of the Empire in countless wars across the globe, was destined to be humiliated by poorly-organised citizen militia consisting of men whom the British professionals despised as back-wood farmers. In one week in December 1899 the farmers of the South African Boer Republics of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal inflicted three serious reverses on British troops.
