GOD'S CALL TO CARE FOR THE ORPHAN IS FOR ALL OF US. Becoming Home is for anyone who has wrestled with how to address the orphan crisis. Caring for orphans makes grace touchable. When Christians choose to adopt, foster, mentor, or support care for orphans around the globe, it reveals God's true character to the world like nothing else we can do. Becoming Home unpacks specific steps everyone can take to care for orphans in distress. Some of these steps are 'big' choices like fostering or adopting; some are simpler choices like supporting work abroad or mentoring a foster youth. But all are ways we can practically show love to orphans---not because of a sense of duty, guilt, or even idealism, but because we've first been loved by God. Becoming Home is part of the FRAMES series - short yet meaningful reads on the top issues facing us in today's complex culture. A new kind of book brought to you by Barna Group, to help you read less, and know more. Facebook's founding is legend: In a Harvard dorm, wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg invented a new way to connect with friends...and the rest is history. But for the people who actually molded this great idea into a game-changing $300 billion company, the experience was far more tumultuous and uncertain than we might expect. Mike Hoefflinger was one of those Facebook insiders. Becoming Facebook tells the coming-of-age story of the now venerable giant. Filled with insights and anecdotes from crises averted and challenges solved, the book tracks the company's development, uncovering lessons learned on its way to greatness: How Facebook recovered from its "disastrous" IPO - How the growth team achieved the impossible - Why Facebook's News Feed ads were the company's most important business decision ever - How Google+ attacked and lost - Why--and how --Instagram and WhatsApp were added to the mix - What the company does to win the talent wars - What makes Zuckerberg, Sandberg, Cox, and other A-teamers tick - Which products and technical advancements are on the horizon and why - And much more Intimate, fast-paced, and deeply informative, Becoming Facebook shares the true story of how Zuckerberg joined the ranks of iconic CEOs like Steve Jobs, Larry Page, and Jeff Bezos--as Facebook grows up, overcomes setbacks, and works to connect the world. Becoming Charlemagne tells the story of the international power struggle that led to this world-changing event, illuminating an era that has long been overshadowed by myth. For 1,200 years, the deeds of Charlemagne inspired kings and crusaders, the conquests of Napoleon and Hitler, and the optimistic architects of the European Union. In this engaging narrative, Jeff Sypeck crafts a vivid portrait of the ruler who became a legend, while evoking a long-ago world of kings, caliphs, merchants, and monks. Transporting readers far beyond Europe to the glittering palaces of Constantinople and the streets of medieval Baghdad, Becoming Charlemagne brings alive an age of empire building that continues to resonate to this day. Lauren Huttons life fell apart at the age of thirty. She lost her husband, her career, and her father. When the future looked dark, Hutton turned to her past for inspiration. There, she rediscovered the true love of her life. It wasnt another person. Instead, this love was Sarh, the voice of Huttons own soul. Sarh had been speaking to Hutton for years, but she kept trying to tune her out through antidepressants, drugs, and overwork. As Hutton gradually realized Sarhs identity and purpose, she began to reconnect with a part of herself she had long thought lost. The pressures of adulthood, career, and relationships had stifled the creativity and curiosity she had cherished as a child. Hutton rediscovered her old passionsand now she shares her spiritual and metaphysical knowledge with you. Hutton teaches that you cant look to the Universe for guidance. She didnt find the answers to her questions out in the world but inside herself. By listening to her souls voice, Hutton realized who she was meant to be, and she transformed her life. She became spiritually fulfilled and committed herself to helping others hear their own soul voices. About the Author Lauren Hutton has devoted her life to teaching people to access their soul space. She assists them in integrating human experiences with those of the soul, the master voice within, and navigates people back to their innate creative abilities. Hutton draws wisdom from her own soul voice, Sarh, and her studies with ascended masters, those who have completed their time on earth. She believes the spiritual experiences humans seek can be found inside themselves. Hutton has previously worked as a newspaper reporter, a communications professional, a nonprofit lobbyist, a public affairs specialist, and a business owner. She now splits her time between Longmont in Colorado, Encinitas in California, and her home state of Texas. She enjoys traveling, playing with her dog, Ollie, and meeting new people through her work with www.newenergycreator.com. The history of a nation-in-the-making should not be reduced to a selective heroic tradition, but should be a tolerant and continuing process of questioning and re-examintaion." Becoming Zimbabwe tracks the idea of national belonging and citizenship and explores the nature of state rule, the changing contours of the political economy, and the regional and international dimensions of the country's history. In their Introduction, Brian Raftopoulos and Alois Mlambo enlarge on these themes, and Gerald Mazarire's opening chapter sets the pre-colonial background. Sabelo Ndlovu-Gatsheni tracks the history up to World War II, and Alois Mlambo reviews developments in the settler economy and the emergence of nationalism leading to the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) in 1965. The politics and economics of the UDI period, and the subsequent war of liberation, are covered by Joseph Mtisi, Munyaradzi Nyakudya and Teresa Barnes. After independence in 1980, Zimbabwe enjoyed a period of buoyancy and hope. James Muzondidya's chapter details the transition "from buoyancy to crisis", and Brian Raftopoulos concludes the book with an analysis of the decade-long crisis and the global political agreement which followed. The Managers Guide to Becoming a Leader is about service leadership, its philosophy is twofold, first that projects can be managed but people should be led, and leaders arent born theyre created. The book focuses on improving oneself as a person and as a leader. No single book, or series of books, could cover every contingency leaders face, fit every organization, and answer every leadership question. However, a way of thinking, a leadership thought process can be shared. Leaders who have an employee centric, influence based, leadership belief system can face most management obstacles and find the opportunity in them. If you, the reader, take nothing away from this book other than how service leaders thinkI will be content, and you will be a better leader. This revised edition (in a smaller format aimed at the tourist market) of this beautiful book shows poignant images from Breytenbach’s collection of District Six during the 1970s before the area was dramatically demolished by the apartheid government. It is an historical record about the inhabitants and their surroundings of that time and was compiled over a period of five years. The Cape Town area known as District Six (so called for its geographic position on the municipal map of the city) developed into a dense residential area close to the centre of Cape Town during the second part of the nineteenth century. Home to a diverse community with a wide range of historical origins, neglect on the part of landlords and local authorities led to the area becoming rundown. The government repeatedly directed requests to the city council and the landlords – most of whom were white and not residing in the area – to upgrade what was fast becoming a slum on the doorstep of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. On 11 February 1966, the government declared District Six a white area under the Group Areas Act, and the wholesale removal of the inhabitants was started – mainly to areas away from the city. This process took fifteen years and some 60 000 people were removed.
