Title: The Missing Piece | Kevin Lings Subtitle: Solving South Africa's Economic Puzzle Author: Kevin Lings Publisher: Pan MacMillan (2014) ISBN-10: 1770103767 ISBN-13: 9781770103764 Condition: Very Good Binding: Softcover Pages: 225 Dimensions: 23.4 x 15.3 x 2 cm +++ by Kevin Lings +++ At the time of South Africa's first democratic election in 1994 everyone agreed that poverty had to be uprooted, inequality reduced and the conditions for sustainable economic growth established. It was clear that the structure of the economy had to change and that land ownership, employment opportunities and access to essential services had to more closely match the needs of the entire population. Unfortunately, there was very little fundamental agreement about how this should be done. The Missing Pieces: Solving South Africa's Economic Puzzle looks at various aspects of our economy over the past 20 years in an accessible way - what has worked and what has fallen short - and looks into the next 20 years - what needs to be done in order to grow and sustain our economy - through focusing on the agricultural sector, redressing education policies and addressing our infrastructural backlog.

Stunning book.!! Book in VG Condition. Glossy pages.. Heavy book in Slip case,. Slip case slightly damaged at one corner. All else in VG condition. A Treasure of knowledge.   "The Complete Book of Southern African Mammals" covers each of Southern Africa's 343 mammal species. From the diminutive shrews to the weird and wonderful bats, the carnivores, primates and ungulates (hoofed animals), this guide represents the work of 72 leading authorities in the field of mammal research. More than 400 colour photographs, many submitted by the region's most renowned wildlife photographers, were selected from an initial shortlist of 1,000. Wherever possible these portray the animals in their natural environments and many depict interesting aspects of behaviour too. The guide is divided into three main sections. The first and most extensive section covers land mammals - from shrews, moles and bats to primates, rabbits, rodents, primates, carnivores and ungulates. The second section embraces the marine mammals, comprising the whales, dolphins and seals. The third part of the guide covers exotic (introduced) species, such as the house rat, the grey squirrel and the fallow deer. In most instances, the species are introduced in a general text that is followed by more detailed biological notes covering aspects such as habitat, breeding, food and feeding methods and social system. A distribution map is provided for each animal. Supplementary essays at the front of the guide offer an even deeper insight into the subject, covering evolution, mammal classification, habitats, mammal adaptations and conservation. Selected further reading, a glossary of terms and a list of alternative names for each of the major languages within the sub-region are also provided.

What can these facilitators do to enhance their listening and empathic skills? Person-Centred Facilitation presents the theory and practice of the person-centred approach to facilitating counselling, as developed by Carl Rogers. The text provides an introduction to the person-centred approach in relation to individuals, groups, families and communities. It offers a solid theoretical grounding which supports both academic learning and applied practice, and guides readers' understanding and self-development. Revised and updated, the fourth edition integrates values from an African cultural perspective, and reflects the importance of social justice as an element of the developmental counselling process. It offers a wealth of South African case studies, an entirely new section on family counselling, and an expanded focus on group work counselling. Other expanded areas include aspects of constructivism; cross-cultural communication; people in conflict, and the self of the facilitator, the latter two aspects having been integrated into the text of the various chapters. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 13 working days A concise and accessible history of decolonization in the twentieth century The end of colonial rule in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean was one of the most important and dramatic developments of the twentieth century. In the decades after World War II, dozens of new states emerged as actors in global politics. Long-established imperial regimes collapsed, some more or less peacefully, others amid mass violence. This book takes an incisive look at decolonization and its long-term consequences, revealing it to be a coherent yet multidimensional process at the heart of modern history. Jan Jansen and Jurgen Osterhammel trace the decline of European, American, and Japanese colonial supremacy from World War I to the 1990s. Providing a comparative perspective on the decolonization process, they shed light on its key aspects while taking into account the unique regional and imperial contexts in which it unfolded. Jansen and Osterhammel show how the seeds of decolonization were sown during the interwar period and argue that the geopolitical restructuring of the world was intrinsically connected to a sea change in the global normative order. They examine the economic repercussions of decolonization and its impact on international power structures, its consequences for envisioning world order, and the long shadow it continues to cast over new states and former colonial powers alike. Concise and authoritative, Decolonization is the essential introduction to this momentous chapter in history, the aftershocks of which are still being felt today. Elephants are arguably Africa¿s most charismatic animals, and among the biggest drawcards to our game reserves. While the burgeoning game-park industry may be increasing our access to these magnificent creatures, rising human-elephant encounters are an inevitable outcome ¿ sometimes, sadly, fatal. Such encounters could likely have been avoided had those involved understood elephant behaviour, and particularly how these intelligent animals interface with traffic through their territory. This book describes elephant family life, from rearing of infants to establishing dominance within a herd; it unpacks regular elephant behaviour, the matriarchal system, the particular dangers of males in musth, and many other aspects of their lives. Most of all, it provides guidelines for ensuring safe and enjoyable encounters with these majestic animals. This is an essential guide for those planning visits to reserves: aside from the interest factor, being able to read the tell-tale signs may just save lives.

The authors have extended the scope of the book by including certain adjoining urban areas such as Sandton, Randburg, Soweto and Edenvale, some of which have only recently been brought into the orbit of Greater Johannesburg.;The detailed chronology which precedes the alphabetical entries highlights the important events which helped to determine the city's destiny.
