  George Washington is honoured on the first in the U.S. Mint's ten-piece series of reproductions of America's first Medals, voted by the Continental Congress to commemorate the decisive military action of the Revolutionary War. The medal was awarded to General George Washington for the Liberation of Boston in 1776. The medal is approximately 38mm in diameter.

Set of three medals from Zimbabwe From left to right. Independance Medal This medal was awarded to those serving in Rhodesia in April 1980 - Rhodesian Security Forces, Commonwealth Monitoring Forces, ZIPRA and ZANLA. This medal is unique, being the first medal to have ever been issued to all sides of a conflict in the world. Liberation Medal Here is also an important award related to the period before the independence of Zimbabwe. It is the Liberation Medal (this is a 2 classes awarded, silver & bronze) and it was awarded to those who before 18 April 1981 (the date of independence of Zimbabwe) have given service to the establishment of the country. Mostly ex guerilla fighter. Please note that the ribbon attached is for the Medal for Long and Exemplary Service in the Army. Zimbabwe Service Medal Zimbabwe Service Medal awarded for 10 years of service. This medal is not attributed on the rim, but on the reverse.   Condition as per photo's

1961 Formation of the Republic of South Africa Silver Medallion May 31st 1961 STG silver - weighing 18.0 grams   Extract below is from a Medals website:- Form: Circular. The bronzed medal has an attached lug for suspension. By: South African Mint Date: 1961 Ref:  AM2: 355; Laidlaw: 0035; Variations: Size Metal Mass Value 31.1 mm 9ct Gold 18.3 gm $250 31.2 mm Silver 17.9 gm $30 31.1 mm Matt Bronze 14.8 gm $15 31.5 mm Bronzed Base Metal   $5 Edge: Plain.   Obverse: The coat of arms of the Republic of South Africa with supporters, lion crest and motto: “EX UNITAE VIRES”   Reverse: Cape Town Castle rendered in a pentagonal shape, interior roughened, across: “31–5–1961”.  Silver medal stamped at the foot: "(lion head) STG m (for 1960) or n (for 1961) S.A.M".   Notes: Set of three issued in a blue oblong case lined with white silk marked: "SAM" and blue velvet. Silver medal issued singly in a similar square case. The bronzed medal with lug was issued to all school children. It is probably the most common of all South African medals. Under international pressures over its apartheid policy, South Africa withdrew from the British Commonwealth in March 1961. On 30th May Charles Robberts Swart resigned from his position as Governor-General with the result that Queen Elizabeth II ceased to be the Head of State. Date: 1970   Size 38.1 mm Bronze 23.6 gm   Edge: Plain Obverse: A family of six settles with their belongings all facing left; one boy pointing. Signed: “T.S.” below left. Below, text across: “ON APRIL 10, 1820, THE FIRST of 4000 / BRITISH SETTLERS SET FOOT ON SHORE / AT ALGOA BAY / THESE PEOPLE PLAYED A VITAL / PART IN THE DEVELOPMENT / OF SOUTHERN AFRICA”.   Reverse: In large letters at the top across: “1820” and at the bottom: “1970”. In the middle with smaller lettering: “BY CHOICE AND / CONSCIOUS WILL”. The central text is separated above and below from the dates by a row of flowers. Above: rose (England), protea, thistle (Scotland) and strelitzia and below: shamrock (Ireland), aloe plant, two leaks (Wales) and two arum lilies. Signed “T.S.” below the leaks.   Mintage: 1000 bronze medals
