BELOW IS AN EXTRACT OF THE FEEDBACK I GOT FROM A STAMP DEALER: They were only issued in April 1971, probably in a hurry due to a shortage of these 2 values at the time, and were to be replaced by the new designs to be released in March 1972. With less than a year required for use, I doubt the printing quantity was significant, hence their relative scarcity & price. It can therefore be presumed why there was no need to print the 4c in both languages. However, despite the lack of printed evidence, I have been in the trade since 1972 and it has always been common knowledge that this is the case and I can assure you, because these 4c stamps are all quite scarce, I check them every time I get in any. In over 44 years of experience, not a single Afrikaans copy has surfaced but the English version has regularly.

Richard Buel Jr. is professor of history at Wesleyan University. He is the author of Dear Liberty and co-author of The Way of Duty. As per scans below. This very rare strip shows the UHB R10 V3 variety "Broken Frame" at 4 positions. It also shows the further variety of missing or faded lines in top right curl which is found with V3. The strip has been reinforced as indicated to prevent further perforation separation.  MNH but for hinge on top stamp and at reinforcing between stamps 5 and 6.

Large bronze medallion, mintage only 13 469, great details,showing light wear as depicted in images below 59mm Diameter 120g Issued in 1961 by the Israeli government on the occasion of the Thirteenth Anniversary of the State of Israel, the Bar-Mitzvah Year of the State.  Obverse Shows a youth reading from the Torah (Scroll of the Law) on the occasion of his Bar-Mitzvah, wearing a yarmulka (skullcap), tallit (prayer shawl) and tfillin (phylacteries). On the edge of the tallit appears the year 1961 in Hebrew and in English; in the center is the Hebrew inscription, 'BEN SHALOSH ESRAY LAMITZVOT (Ethics of the Fathers 5:24); around the rim is the English translation, 'At 13 for the Fulfillment of the Mitzvoh P'a5 24' Reverse Shows the Shield of the State in the center, surrounded by emblems of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Around the top half of the rim is the Hebrew inscription, 'Y U D GIMEL SHANNAH LEMEDI- NAT YISRAEL' with the English translation on the bottom half of the rim 'Bar Mitzvah of the State of Israel'. Edge The inscription "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English and the State emblem.
