WW1: GERMAN S98/05 SAW-BACK 'BUTCHERS' BAYONET WITH STEEL IN SOUTH AFRICA
From the First World War, a German S98/05 Saw-Back ‘Butchers’ Bayonet with Steel Scabbard. Type with steel flash-guard over hilt to protect wooden grip. Withdrawn and not used after 1917. Made by Frister & Rossmann and stamped (indistinctly): “Act. Ges. Vorm. Frister & Rossmann, BERLIN” on the base of the blade. The blade is 35 cm long. Originally about 1cm longer but the tip has broken off.
