Kyiv had been governed by the Magdeburg Right from the early 15th century. One of the charters of the Grand Lithuanian Duke Olexander of 1499 confirmed the effect of legal municipal regulations, in accordance with which the towndwellers were governed by the members of the elective self-government and the court. The Magdeburg Right was effective in Kyiv till December 23, 1834.On the coin obverse there is a depiction of the small National Emblem of Ukraine in the ornament created on the motives of the designs of official seals of Kyiv city council of the 17th century.On the coin reverse there is a depiction of the monument to the Magdeburg Right in the city of Kyiv by the architect A.Melensky (1802-1808).
